Alouette

I love [name_m]French[/name_m] girl names, and have been looking for interesting ones lately. What do you think of [name_f]Alouette[/name_f]? Pronounced [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lou-ett. I really like it, and the nicknames [name_u]Lou[/name_u] and/or [name_f]Ettie[/name_f].

There’s also a children’s song, which pronounces it [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lou-ett-a in some parts.

I think it’s cute. Definitely pretty out-there. And the song is still just [name_f]Alouette[/name_f], we just emphasize the ending -tte sound.
A bit hard to picture on an adult, however.

I did immediately go to that song… alouette gentille alouette…I think we had to sing it in elementary school? The pronunciation is exaggerated in the song to me, but I would still pronounce it with a slight -uh at the end. I think it’s cute and the nn potential is great!

From what I know, [name_f]Alouette[/name_f] isn’t actually used in [name_f]France[/name_f] as a name even though it is a [name_m]French[/name_m] word.

I have [name_f]Alouette[/name_f] on my list for middle names. It specifically goes in a combo that’s a tribute to my dad, [name_f]Emilie[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Alouette[/name_f]. My dad is [name_m]French[/name_m] Canadian and sang the song to me from when I was born, and called me [name_f]Alouette[/name_f] as a pet name.

So, I’d personally love to meet a little [name_f]Alouette[/name_f]! [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_u]Allie[/name_u] could be a nickname (though I prefer [name_u]Lou[/name_u]… so [name_m]French[/name_m]). I was watching the movie [name_m]Wild[/name_m] Hearts Can’t Be Broken last night and there was a character named Arnette… [name_f]Alouette[/name_f] is way cooler!

[name_f]Alouette[/name_f] is my niece’s name! I think it’s a gorgeous choice. A plus: it stands out while still conforming to many current style patterns. Surprisingly, few people have mentioned the song – with the exception of the middle-aged and above group. It has received a lot of positive feedback. Nicknames: [name_u]Ali[/name_u], Alou, [name_u]Lou[/name_u], and [name_f]Lettie[/name_f].

Drawback: [name_m]Said[/name_m] quickly, it can sound very similar to “all wet.”

FYI: [name_f]Alouette[/name_f] is a cheese spread. Next time your at the market, look near the cream cheese & you’ll see it

I immediately thought of the song, but it is very cute…and I love [name_m]French[/name_m] names!

My issue with it is that it isn’t a real [name_m]French[/name_m] name. Plus the song is about plucking a dead lark…

[name_f]Alouette[/name_f] is actually not a name in [name_f]France[/name_f]. I’m [name_m]French[/name_m] and I can tell you that people would make fun of somebody named [name_f]Alouette[/name_f]…
Plus, everybody knows the song and it’s definitely not a nice cute song. It’s about plucking the feathers from a lark and kill it.
I like how it sounds but I would never give it to my kid.

I second this.

I think [name_f]Alouette[/name_f] is very pretty, I especially like [name_f]Ettie[/name_f]!

I don’t like it, sorry. I generally dislike names ending in -ette. I also find the pronunciation awkward, though I know its right.
