Alternate long forms for Rory, Trudy, and Lottie?

I love the following nicknames – [name]Rory[/name], [name]Trudy[/name], and [name]Lottie[/name]. I’m not wild about the long forms [name]Lorelai[/name], [name]Gertrude[/name], and [name]Charlotte[/name] though. Other ideas for getting to [name]Rory[/name], [name]Trudy[/name] or [name]Lottie[/name]?

I’ve only heard [name]Rory[/name] as a nickname for [name]Aurora[/name] on girls. Can’t think of any other long form for [name]Trudy[/name] but maybe [name]Carlotta[/name] for [name]Lottie[/name]?

I second the suggestion for [name]Aurora[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name]. I’ve only heard [name]Rory[/name] as a nickname for [name]Lorelei[/name] on [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls

Ottolie or [name]Ottoline[/name] for [name]Lottie[/name]. Maybe Alora or [name]Leora[/name]/[name]Liora[/name] for [name]Rory[/name]?

Aside from [name]Aurora[/name], which is the most logical way to get to [name]Rory[/name] (like pp said, I’ve never heard it for [name]Lorelei[/name] outside of GG) there are a few others I’ve heard [name]IRL[/name] that are slight stretches: [name]Aurelia[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name] & [name]Victoria[/name].

For [name]Lottie[/name]…maybe [name]Loretta[/name]? I can’t think of any for [name]Trudy[/name].

The only [name]Trudy[/name] I’ve known used it as a nn for Edeltraud. I don’t know if that is much better than [name]Gertrude[/name]!

[name]Rory[/name] is the nn for [name]Roderic/name, but the Scottish name [name]Ruari[/name] might be an interesting choice.

[name]Rory[/name]: [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Aurore[/name], [name]Oriana[/name]

[name]Trudy[/name]: Truda and all -trude/-truda names. Ermentruda/Ermentrude/Ermintrude/Ermintruda (you get the picture with the spelling variations), Aldetruda, Valtruda. I find them beautiful, but many might consider them “too much name” for a modern person even if she goes by [name]Trudy[/name] all the time.

[name]Lottie[/name]: [name]Liselotte[/name] is the obvious choice, but surely there are similar names

Thanks for the suggestions. I love [name]Loretta[/name] and [name]Liselotte[/name], and I hadn’t thought of using [name]Rory[/name] for [name]Loretta[/name]. I think [name]Aurora[/name] is beautiful, but had automatically dismissed it for the Disney connection. Maybe I should really consider it though, because I love “dawn” names, especially [name]Alba[/name]. No nickname necessary for that one though!

Along with [name]Aurora[/name] and [name]Lorelei[/name], I’ve also heard of [name]Victoria[/name], [name]Elora[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], etc., as ways to get to [name]Rory[/name]. I think anything with “ro” or “or” could honestly work. For [name]Lottie[/name], I think that’s a bit trickier, but I’ve heard [name]Lieselotte[/name], Hannelotte, etc., as other [name]Lottie[/name] names, and I think you could take it from other -let names, too, like [name]Violet[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], Adalet, [name]Ayelet[/name], etc.

I’m not sure about [name]Trudy[/name], unless you did [name]True[/name] D_____ (or even D_____ [name]True[/name])–maybe something like [name]True[/name] [name]Daphne[/name]/[name]Daphne[/name] [name]True[/name], or [name]Delilah[/name] [name]True[/name]/[name]True[/name] [name]Delilah[/name], etc.

Good luck!

There was an opera singer named Trudeliese Schmidt. That could give you [name]Trudy[/name], I guess.

FWIW, I think [name]Trudy[/name] is fine on its own. I prefer it to the long forms, frankly.

I know a [name]Laura[/name] who goes by [name]Rory[/name].

[name]Aurora[/name] is my favourite long-for-[name]Rory[/name]. [name]Carlotta[/name] for [name]Lottie[/name].

The nerdy part of me that likes convoluted puns likes [name]Trudy[/name] as short for [name]Verity[/name]. Because it means “true.” But that is not really saying to do that.

What about [name]Ruth[/name] for [name]Trudy[/name]? or [name]Prudence[/name]?

And I agree with [name]Violet[/name] for [name]Lottie[/name].
And [name]Cordelia[/name] for [name]Rory[/name].

My 2 year old is an “[name]Aurora[/name]” [name]Rory[/name]. We just love it- a nice feminine name for her girly girl stages and an adorable rough and tumble nickname. We get very few Disney comments, even though our baby boy’s name is (coincidentally) [name]Sebastian[/name], nickname “Bash.” We get more northern lights comments, which we’re okay with!

I like Trutilda for [name]Trudy[/name], though I know it may sounds heavy and awkward to other people.

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Violet[/name] for [name]Lottie[/name] and [name]Cordelia[/name] for [name]Rory[/name]. I like Trutilda too. But I think now the [name]Lottie[/name]/[name]Rory[/name] options are winning over [name]Trudy[/name] for me.

[name]Clotilde[/name] for [name]Lottie[/name]?

And call my crazy, but all this recent talk about unisex names and using boys names on girls made me think of [name]Lancelot[/name] nn [name]Lottie[/name].
I kind of think [name]Lancelot[/name] would be more sweet on a girl than [name]Thomas[/name], but someone is probably going to kick my behind for saying it XD [name]Lancelot[/name] is barely seeing any use at all, so it will perhaps cause less confusion if you gender-switched it…
