Alternate Nicknames for Elisabeth?

[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] has always been on my list of girls names, but never at the top. I lost a close friend named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] a few months back and I’ve now been considering to use the name either as a first or middle in her memory. I prefer the spelling with “s” rather than “z”.

However, I am not a huge fan of the traditional [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nicknames: [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], [name_f]Liz[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f], etc. Are there any other nicknames out there that I’m missing?

Thanks!

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lise[/name_f], [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]
[name_f]Buffy[/name_f]!

[name_u]Izzy[/name_u]
Best of luck!

Lilibet
Sabby
Elisa
Isa
Busy
Tibby
Liesl

I vote for [name_f]Libby[/name_f] and [name_m]Ebbie[/name_m]!

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Libby[/name_f]!

[name_f]Elise[/name_f]…

If you went with z spelling…
[name_f]Zibby[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Liza[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Elise[/name_f] or [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]

[name_f]Busy[/name_f] is SO cute! I’ve heard of bitty, batty and zippy for fun too

I’ve always liked Sabey, pronounced [name_m]Say[/name_m]-bee.

[name_f]Lissa[/name_f]/ Lissy

[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]:

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]

Sabey (pron. sah-bee)
Sabeth (pron. sah-beth)

Thanks for all the input so far!

I hadn’t ever heard of most of these before. I’m really loving [name_f]Lissa[/name_f]. It sounds beautiful and the meaning is nice on it’s own as well.

What do you think about [name_u]Elia[/name_u]?

[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
[name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Lissie[/name_f] (with a sssss sound not zzzzz)
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]

SOrry for repeats

[name_u]Izzy[/name_u]
Libba
[name_f]Beth[/name_f]
[name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_f]Betsie[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Bette[/name_f]. [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is also adorable. [name_f]Tibby[/name_f] is kinda cute. I also like [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. Wow, [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] has ton of great options.

I started college a couple of weeks ago, and one of my new friends is an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and she goes by [name_f]Tess[/name_f].

I must admit, it’s a new one on me, but then it works doesn’t it? After all, [name_f]Bess[/name_f] is legit, so why not [name_f]Tess[/name_f]?

In [name_f]Austria[/name_f] Sissi (also spelled [name_f]Sisi[/name_f]) is a common nickname for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. Famous [name_f]Empress[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] of [name_f]Austria[/name_f] was actually called [name_f]Sisi[/name_f] all the time, that’s how the nickname got popular I guess

I like [name_f]Lissa[/name_f]/Lissi and [name_u]Isa[/name_u]

Me personally would never consider [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. It means something completely different and has been its own name gir just as long. However… I do have a little cousin named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who we call [name_f]Lily[/name_f] (shortened from Lillibet).

In addition to the ones already mentioned, there’s also:

[name_u]Abby[/name_u]
[name_f]Ibby[/name_f] (I’ve heard of this for [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], so I don’t know why it couldn’t be used for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], too!)
[name_u]Isa[/name_u]
Liddy (somewhere I found that Liddy could be a nn for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]… although I’m not sure how! I still love Liddy, though)
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]/[name_f]Tilly[/name_f] (two nns I’ve really loved over the years–I never really liked the traditional ways to get to [name_f]Tess[/name_f] or [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], but in threads, the Berries seemed to think that either [name_f]Tess[/name_f] or [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] could work as nns. I think they’re both adorable!)

I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Elise[/name_f]/[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (I’ve also come across [name_u]Elis[/name_u]ée (eh-lee-[name_m]SAY[/name_m]) as an unusual [name_m]French[/name_m] nn for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] (also an unusual [name_m]French[/name_m] form of [name_u]Elisha[/name_u] for a boy), which I find darling!), Liddy, [name_f]Tess[/name_f], and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] best as nns for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].

Good luck!

Without repeats, I’ve got [name_f]Lillith[/name_f]. Or coming from the [name_f]Beth[/name_f] part, [name_f]Ethel[/name_f]. [name_f]Sable[/name_f]? [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f]? [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is my favorite for the spelling with the z. Using the way that [name_m]Ned[/name_m] came from “mine [name_m]Ed[/name_m],” you could do [name_f]Nel[/name_f] or [name_f]Nellie[/name_f].
