Oh no sorry, I wasn’t trying to call you inappropriate or come across like I was offended. I am not Welsh. I think it can be seen as inappropriate though to Welsh people I know, which is something I’d avoid. [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] as ‘rice’ definitely isn’t a thing though!
I hope you can find the middle ground here, [name_m]Reiss[/name_m] is a good spelling for it but I only know a [name_m]Reiss[/name_m] pronounced like [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. But I think this could work!
That’s perfectly fine🙂. Thank you so much for your advice and thank you for telling me that it could be considered inappropriate by Welsh people. I would much rather be warned that I may be making a mistake than learn only after making the mistake.
I absolutely would, except it looks out of place amongst his siblings’ names— [name_f]Riona[/name_f], [name_m]Roman[/name_m], and [name_f]Rowenna[/name_f] (their mom really liked the letter R). Thank you, though. I love the Rhice spelling, perhaps for a future character🙂.
I’d just spell it Rys instead. I still find [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] confusing and I’ve been on here for ten years, it’s a NB favourite so gets mentioned a lot, and I still instinctively pronounce it rice in my head whenever I read it. So maybe it’s best to avoid the confusion in general and go with a different spelling for either pronunciation.
Me too! That’s why I was wondering whether it was an established pronunciation or not.
For the name, Rys was certainly one I considered and certainly one of my favorites. However, it looked kind of short compared to his siblings (Riona, Roman, and Rowenna). I think I am going to go with Reiss, but Rys is still one I’m fond of.
