I simply [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] the combo [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Eris[/name_f]. I think it’s just gorgeous!
Generally the meaning of names do not bother me, however it is difficult to ignore the fact that [name_f]Eris[/name_f] is a Greek goddess of chaos, strife and discord (and the name of Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty).
Can you suggest any alternatives to [name_f]Eris[/name_f]?
I would prefer something short and unfrilly (as [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] is long and frilly enough all by herself).
I generally prefer unusual, historical, mythological, fantastical, whimsical, literary or nerdy names that are easy to say and spell.
Though I’m prepared to make exceptions - I’ve considered [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
If you like the sound of [name_f]Eris[/name_f], why not think about names with a similar sound:
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] (in Dutch it is pronounced Ee-ris, which sounds like the name you like, but has the nice flower association)
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_m]Idris[/name_m] ([name_m]Idris[/name_m] is a boy’s name, but I think it could totally make the switch)
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Enid[/name_f]
etc…
I think [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Eris[/name_f] is beautiful. The [name_f]Eris[/name_f] thing wouldn’t bother me a bit, but it’s your choice. I think some good suggestions are:
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] (still kind of frilly, but still a similar sound)
[name_u]Ira[/name_u]
[name_f]Irene[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Ida[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
I’ve always liked frillier names with [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], such as [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], but here are some that are not cutesy:
Sybil doesn’t do anything for me. I LOVE the name Juno but don’t like the repeated U sounds
I reeeeally like Tallulah Nerys - DH and I met in Wales and lived there for five years, so we wouldn’t mind using a Welsh name. Only thing is the spelling looks a little old-ladyish to me. Maybe because it reminds me of Gladys? Do you think Tallulah Neris would be an option? Or is that depriving Nerys of her ‘Welshness’?
I like this too, but much prefer the spelling Eimear. I wonder if with Tallulah it’s far too much Ireland in one name?
I love Iris but we already have one in the family! Idris is firmly on my boys list, I’m not willing to switch! I’m not a fan of Eden or Enid but thanks for the suggestions!
Glad to hear there’s someone else out there that likes Tallulah Eris!
I already mentioned Iris above. Ira, Irene and Ida don’t really do anything for me. I LOVE Isla but don’t like the repeated A ending with Tallulah. Ivy is lovely I’ll definitely have to consider Tallulah Ivy!
Thanks for the suggestions! I love Eleanor and Violet but I already know little girls with these names and would prefer something I haven’t heard already (I mean on a real person I’ve actually met!). Your suggestion of Tallulah Maude just inspired me to consider Tallulah Maeve!
Thank you! I love Tallulah Pearl but DH hates the name Pearl It’s not fair! I am thinking over Tallulah Hope…
Wow so many incredible names! I like Tallulah Isis and Tallulah Inez. Not sure about Yseult but maybe Tallulah Isolde! I’m not really a fan of Io or Enid. Tallulah Fay is lovely but I’d prefer Tallulah Fae. Enya is gorgeous but I don’t know about double A sound endings? I adore the traditional Eithne spelling but it’s sure to come with many pronunciation issues!
Thanks so much for all your help! I now have so many options to think over!
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Alys[/name_f] (the Welshie in me secretly loves this spelling!) and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] Eydis (AY-dees as far as I can make out) are two suggestions that sprung to mind - [name_f]Eris[/name_f] is so lovely though.
I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] (prefer this spelling), but I’m not keen on it with [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], as the ending of [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] runs into the start of [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
Eydis is interesting, I’ve never heard of this name before! Might be a little too obscure!
Swap out the dreadful-but-melifluous [name_f]Eris[/name_f] for something with identical sounds:
[name_f]Nerys[/name_f] (definitely not old-ladyish: Ys are the ultimate modern trendy vowel)
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]
[name_f]Charis[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarice[/name_f]
Eirlys
[name_f]Maris[/name_f]
[name_f]Annice[/name_f]
Ok I’m going to give [name_f]Nerys[/name_f] some more thought as it is a lovely name. I’m not sure why I think old-lady when I see it, as that doesn’t happen with other Welsh Y names (like [name_f]Carys[/name_f]).
Why did I not think of Eirlys!??? I love Eirlys! Talluah Eirlys. Oh you may have just found me ‘the one’!
I also [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_f]Maris[/name_f], but with a [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] already in my family it’s not usable unfortunately.
