ARG!
We are ttc#2 and dh doesn’t like anything I come up with!!DD is [name]Isla[/name], if we have a boy he’ll be [name]Grant[/name], but the only name dh likes for a girl is [name]Audrey[/name]! I like it alright, but feel like its way too popular, and seems to be getting even more popular by the moment. I feel its poised to be the next [name]Abigail[/name]/[name]Olivia[/name].
Any ideas for a less trendy alternative to [name]Audrey[/name]??
names I’ve tried on him are:
[name]Marin[/name]/[name]Marina[/name]
[name]Maris[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Calla[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]
My first thought was [name]Audra[/name], which I think is lovely and fairly similar without being easily confused with [name]Audrey[/name]…
[name]Aurelia[/name] and [name]Maud[/name] have the ‘au’ part in them and are both beautiful as well.
[name]Auden[/name] and [name]Arden[/name] are more ‘modern’ alternatives that might appeal to your SO…
[name]Mallory[/name] and [name]Flannery[/name] are nice Irish alternatives, although they may be too spunky?
I also thought of [name]Aurora[/name], maybe that has appeal?
the [name]Rory[/name] nickname is darling!
Let me know what you think of my suggestions! I’d love to help more if I can and you need it!
[name]Aud[/name]
[name]Auda[/name]
[name]Audrina[/name]
[name]Audrianna[/name]
[name]Audrea[/name]
Audette (I don’t know if this is real but it sounds like it should be)
Some that have a similar sound.
(Depends if you pronounce it “Ordrey” - the more english way - or more like “Ardrey” - the more American sounding way)
‘Or’ sounds:
[name]Odette[/name]
[name]Ora[/name]/[name]Orah[/name]
[name]Oralia[/name]
[name]Oralee[/name]
[name]Orchid[/name]
[name]Orla[/name]
[name]Oprah[/name]
[name]Orlinda[/name]
[name]Orpha[/name]
I like [name]Mallory[/name] and dh said he didn’t hate it, but we looked it up and the meaning of it is “unfortunate” and as much as I love a name, I don’t think I could name her something that meant something so awful
I’m going to put in [name]Audra[/name], too. I knew one and she was just so cheery! Also [name]Aubrey[/name]. It’s beautiful, too, and very close to [name]Audrey[/name]. Means “elf ruler.” (That always gets me…how fun would THAT be??)
I do love [name]Audrey[/name] regardless, though. I’ve only met two; one’s in her early 30s and the other is 92! So to me, it’s not that popular.
I love the name [name]Audrey[/name] because I love [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn! [name]Audrey[/name] is a sweet name. The association with [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn makes [name]Audrey[/name] sound very sophisticated and also so kind and thoughtful. Also elegant in an approachable way.
[name]Audrey[/name] Alternatives that are so cute:
[name]Audra[/name] - obvious alternative to [name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] - similar old lady vintage feel
[name]Daphne[/name] - sounds cuddly and sophisticated like [name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name], another famous [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn role, nn could be [name]Liza[/name].
[name]Eloise[/name] - see [name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Elspeth[/name] - sounds sophisticated and English
[name]Esme[/name] - sophisticated
[name]Freya[/name] - but I’ve heard this is very popular in [name]England[/name].
[name]Gemma[/name] - cuddly
[name]Georgie[/name], nn for [name]Georgia[/name] - cuddly
[name]Hattie[/name] - see [name]Clara[/name], nn for [name]Harriet[/name] or [name]Henrietta[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name] - I don’t know why but it reminds me of [name]Audrey[/name].
[name]Iris[/name] - sophisticated
[name]Ivy[/name] - cuddly
[name]Jemima[/name] - cuddly
[name]Josie[/name], nn for [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name], but it is popular, too.
[name]Lydia[/name] - sophisticated
[name]Matilda[/name] - cuddly, love nns [name]Mattie[/name], [name]Tillie[/name], and [name]Tilda[/name]
[name]Milly[/name], cuddly, could be a nn for [name]Camille[/name].
[name]Nell[/name], cuddly and sophisticated, could be a nn for [name]Penelope[/name] or [name]Eleanor[/name].
[name]Olive[/name] - to me this is sophisticated and sounds British
[name]Ottilie[/name] - sounds fresh and sweet.
[name]Pippa[/name]
[name]Remy[/name] - cuddly and sophisticated
[name]Sabrina[/name] - famous [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn role, nn could be [name]Brynn[/name] maybe?
[name]Sylvie[/name] - similar old lady vintage feel
[name]Vivienne[/name] - sophisticated, nn [name]Vivi[/name] is cuddly.
[name]Wallis[/name] - sophisticated, sounds British
Didn’t know if you had gotten a chance to go through the SSA Top 1000, but I took a look at the 600s for girls in 2008 and came up with MY list of names that fit well with Miss [name]Isla[/name] [name]Hope[/name]:
[name]Do[/name] any of those work for you and your husband? I really love [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] ([name]Helen[/name], [name]Lena[/name], [name]Leni[/name]), [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name], and [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Clare[/name].
Aw thats too bad about the meaning of [name]Mallory[/name] but how about [name]Valerie[/name], its beautiful and so underused imo. OTher names that came to mind were
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Ophelie[/name]/ [name]OPhelia[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Martha[/name]
And some other variations of the name [name]Audrey[/name] are:
Audelia
Audene
Audessa
[name]Audreen[/name]
Audrielle
The first alternative to [name]Audrey[/name] I thought of is [name]Aurelie[/name]. It’s a beautiful name and goes well with [name]Isla[/name], I think. They’re both exotic but not too out there.
I just googled names similar to [name]Audrey[/name] and your post came up. What’s crazy is I am in the same situation. My husband loved the name [name]AUDREY[/name] when I suggested it, but I also thought it was a bit to popular and trendy right now. My other favorites are [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Marin[/name] ( I’ve never heard anyone else bring up the name [name]Marin[/name], pronounced Wth a soft a. We have very similar taste. I would love to help but am also struggling. I know a little girl named [name]Doris[/name], and I quite like that. Good luck with it. If I have a boy, I’m thinking Sebatian, [name]Simon[/name], or [name]Felix[/name]. [name]Grant[/name] is nice, sounds regal.
