Our neighbor just had a kid and named him [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. Which was my top pick for a boy name (it still is, but I’m hesitant on potentially using it now).
The facts:
• My partner has known them longer then I have, and to be honest I dont know them too well.
• They are a friend of the family (on my in-laws side).
• We will be moving within the year
• We probably won’t have kids for at least a few years from now.
• My partner says he’s still up for using the name [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]… but I wonder if that will change over time once we get to know their kid.
What do you think I should do?
Can you think of any alternatives for [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]?
I like [name_m]Ike[/name_m] and [name_m]Ian[/name_m].
Other boy names on my list are [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]/[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] and [name_m]Conrad[/name_m].
I really like old fashioned names, and hopefully less popular… unfortunately [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is very popular and is the reason for me turning to nameberry!
I also prefer 2 syllable names.
Both our names contain a C, so I think keeping that theme would be cute, but it’s not a deal breaker.
My brother, during the last few weeks of his wife being pregnant with their 2nd child, had a neighbor (in a neighborhood with only 30 families tops) who named their newborn son by the exact same first name he and his wife had chosen. He debated letting his wife know until after the birth of their own son, but decided to in the end. They kept the name they had chosen, which fits my nephew well. The two families never really hung out before, only at neighborhood events, but definitely do now. They still get a kick over their boys having the same name, albeit different spellings, and both couples are glad they chose a name they love for their sons.
I wonder if you used [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ike[/name_m] it would make your [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] different enough from their [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. The other two names that I thought of right away are [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] & [name_u]Ira[/name_u]. I love [name_u]Ira[/name_u]!
Other names that remind me of the style of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]-
Thanks everyone! That’s helped me alot, I’ll definitely keep [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] on my list and hope that no other family members or friends take the name! Haha
If you wont be having kids for a few years I’d keep it on your list. See how you feel about it when you’re preggers.
My son has the same fn as my very good friend’s mn. We lived on the same street for over 15 years. We’re related by marriage & have known him his entire life, since his mom was pregnant. Doesn’t bother anyone. Although if we didn’t like him, it would probably have changed how we felt about the name.
