My fathers and grandfathers names are [name_m]Richard[/name_m] and I thought if I have a son one day I might want to honor him by using [name_m]Richard[/name_m]. Here’s the thing, I don’t like it. I thought of using Archard but people on here thought it wasn’t a good name. Is the nickname [name_m]Archie[/name_m] too far of a stretch for the classic [name_m]Richard[/name_m]? What are some names like [name_m]Richard[/name_m] that i could use in honor?
Some Nicknames I can thing of are:
[name_u]Ricky[/name_u]
[name_m]Chuck[/name_m]
[name_m]Chucky[/name_m]
[name_m]Richie[/name_m]
[name_m]Rocky[/name_m]
[name_m]Rocko[/name_m]
I think you could make [name_m]Archie[/name_m] work and you could also use [name_m]Richard[/name_m] for a middlename
There’s [name_m]Rikard[/name_m], Dickon, [name_m]Dixon[/name_m], and Rysiek.
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_m]George[/name_m] are old classics that share a style and some sounds with [name_m]Richard[/name_m].
You could also use another R name that is somewhat similar like [name_m]Rueben[/name_m], [name_m]Randall[/name_m], or [name_m]Remus[/name_m].
Different style but similar sounds:
[name_m]Joachim[/name_m]
[name_u]Chandler[/name_u]
[name_u]Channing[/name_u]
[name_m]Edward[/name_m]
[name_m]Richard[/name_m] means ruler or king, so you could use a name that means the same such as
[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] “noble king”
[name_m]Alric[/name_m] “rules all”
[name_m]Basil[/name_m] “royal or kingly”
Delray/Delrick/Elric “of the king”
[name_m]Kyan[/name_m] “little king”
What about Rickon? Dickon, [name_m]Dixon[/name_m], or [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] could also work. [name_m]Ricardo[/name_m] and [name_m]Rico[/name_m] are cool too.
[name_m]Archie[/name_m] does share letters and sounds with [name_m]Richard[/name_m] but it’s not intuitive to me, sorry.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Ryker[/name_m], [name_m]Rocco[/name_m], [name_m]Rico[/name_m] or [name_m]Richie[/name_m]? Or just use [name_m]Richard[/name_m] as the middle name and pick a name you love for the first?
I have the same issue. Also want to honor a [name_m]Richard[/name_m], but I’m not fond of the name. I do like [name_m]Rick[/name_m] but I wouldn’t use it as full name. And it’s a pitty the old [name_m]Dick[/name_m] nickname is ruined, because I used to love it when I read [name_f]Enid[/name_f] Blyton’s books. [name_m]Richards[/name_m] in my family goes by nickname [name_m]Richie[/name_m] and Ardie (because of [name_m]Ric[/name_m]ardo), so I do think [name_m]Archie[/name_m] can honor [name_m]Richard[/name_m]. (I have it on my list, too).
I think Archard is OK, but I wouldn’t use it as first name. Anyway, I much prefer [name_m]Archie[/name_m].
PossibilitiesL
[name_m]Rick[/name_m]
[name_m]Richmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m]
[name_m]Ricarrdo[/name_m]
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m]
It may be best to use [name_m]Richard[/name_m] as a middle name and find another name you love.
I’d use [name_m]Dixon[/name_m] or [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], meaning son of [name_m]Dick[/name_m] or Hudde (both old diminutives of [name_m]Richard[/name_m]), respectively.
