I have loved the name [name_f]Ada[/name_f] for about 5 years, back then it was relatively unusual (#233) but it has been increasing steadily to #65. Yesterday, while chatting with friends, two of them both said their top girl name was [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and it’s not like there can be 3 in the group! So now I’m on the hunt for alternatives.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] is an outlier in my current girls list, as I tend to like longer names (3 or 4 syllables) but I can’t quite let go of her. Has anyone got alternatives? I’ve considered [name_f]Ida[/name_f] (okay, but has to be with the right surname) and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] (too popular). Any others for me to be aware of that have a similar feel but are outside the [name_f]England[/name_f]/Wales top 100?
oh I love [name_f]Ada[/name_f] so much but yes it is getting very popular here in the UK. As is [name_f]Ava[/name_f] so that’s not really a great alternative for you.
Maybe something along the lines of:
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] or [name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] means noble which a lot of ‘A’ girls names do so maybe:
[name_f]Adelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
@MargotAbeline some lovely options here, [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] may be just a bit too popular ([name_f]Edith[/name_f] is #91 and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] #24) but they are both my style. [name_m]Will[/name_m] consider [name_f]Adelia[/name_f], I like that it’s a little longer than [name_f]Ada[/name_f] too. I already had [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] on my list and hadn’t realised the similar meanings!
@anon68906791 I like [name_f]Maude[/name_f] a lot, hadn’t really considered her before. ([name_u]Love[/name_u] the poem [name_f]Sister[/name_f] [name_f]Maude[/name_f] by [name_f]Christina[/name_f] Rossetti even if she isn’t the best namesake!) [name_f]Adela[/name_f] is another good extension of [name_f]Ada[/name_f], I’ll have a think about it. [name_f]May[/name_f] is a family name, so I might consider that as well.
Addie and [name_f]Ida[/name_f] are what came to mind first. I thought of [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] also, they’re sort of like variations of [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. [name_f]Adalee[/name_f] and [name_f]Adarae[/name_f] are like extensions of [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. [name_f]Aada[/name_f] and [name_f]Adah[/name_f] are like [name_f]Ada[/name_f], except sorta different. [name_f]Adva[/name_f] and [name_u]Oda[/name_u] are close enough to [name_f]Ada[/name_f].
I think if you love it you should totally use it.
[name_f]Adalaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] could work.
Alternatives I think of are [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but again they are quite common too.
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Ilaria[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
