[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are expecting baby no.1 in mid-[name_f]September[/name_f] (we’re about 9 weeks right now).
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite boy name since I was about 14 or 15 has been [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. I absolutely adore the name, but I feel over time that it’s gotten far too popular for my liking.
I was wondering what you all thought were some good alternatives.
So far I’ve found that I like [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] as alternatives and I’m starting to think [name_m]Phelan[/name_m] is pretty cool also.
If it’s the popularity of [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a full name that bothers you, there are quite a few cool unusual names to get the nickname [name_u]Finn[/name_u], like [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] or [name_m]Finnian[/name_m].
Well, I have to say, in my opinion you have the VERY BEST taste, because you’ve already mentioned my top 2 fave-of-all-faves boy’s names:
#1 [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]!! ([name_f]My[/name_f] 18 month-old son’s name, so it doesn’t get better in my book. ) #2 [name_m]Milo[/name_m] or [name_m]Miles[/name_m] - what his future brother will most likely be named
I know it’s already been mentioned, but [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] is an alternative to [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. Can’t say I like it as much though… And with [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] gaining popularity since [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] Bloom & [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] [name_u]Kerr[/name_u] named their son [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], & since Disney’s Tangled featured heart-throb, [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Ryder[/name_m], you may soon feel that [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] is becoming overly-saturated as well.
What about [name_u]Tate[/name_u]? It seems similar to the names you are gravitating toward. Or [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]? I adore that name for a boy too!! I’ve added all of these & a few more suggestions below…
I wouldn’t worry about popularity. If you love [name_u]Finn[/name_u], I say use it.”
I am also curious as to where all the ‘Finns’ are? Was it in the top 100 for 2013?? Or just a nameberry favourite?
Would [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u]) be too fancy for you? It’s rarer than [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] but still includes the nickname you like
I would tell you if you love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and alway have, use it! I had a girls name I loved from childhood which also became more popular than my preference but I ended up having 3 sons anyway! [name_f]My[/name_f] sons are [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] so I like your taste! I was torn between [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] for the third but DH wanted [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and flowed with his brothers we felt. Anyway I thought I would share that where we are [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is an upcoming name but there are NO [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] - and I always have to explain or spell his name. He is 5 so I am used to it. I get feedback of “that is so cool to did you make it up?” I love it has the Celtic vibe, short and strong, yet has a soft airy nature to it. I struggled with the spelling, but in the end went with [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] over [name_u]Reece[/name_u] or [name_u]Reese[/name_u]. I also really like [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_u]Shea[/name_u], [name_u]Tate[/name_u], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_u]Reid[/name_u], if you are thinking of other options. I am biased but you have excellent taste! ”
I love [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]! I have a [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] who goes by [name_u]Finn[/name_u]/Finny depending on his mood. I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] his name. It suits him so well! He is only 3 so I dont know how popular it will be once he is in elementary but I make sure that although he goes by [name_u]Finn[/name_u], his full name is what teachers will put on folders, name tags, etc. I call him [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] way more than I thought I would.
