So after a couple years of expecting this to happen (been TTC for 2+ with no luck), had a family member use one of my favorite ones. It was one my husband wasn’t 100% on board with, and my nephew is definitely a [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], so it feels like I got “Hudson” without fighting with my more traditional husband.
This means I get to have fun coming up with an alternative!
What is [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] but not [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] to you?
I admit the [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_u]Bay[/name_u] connection was really cool to me, and I’m a huge history fan, so [name_u]Henry[/name_u] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] was a cool connection to me.
Other names on my boy list are [name_u]Archer[/name_u] (I’ll admit I just like [name_m]Archie[/name_m], plus I did some archery when I was younger), [name_m]Becket[/name_m] (for [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] à Becket), and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] (for [name_m]Errol[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], plus I’m a redhead).
Whatever we go with, we might default to [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] or [name_u]James[/name_u] (family names) as a middle name, or we might do something more fun.
I’m debating [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] (I’m also an [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] fan). Unsure about it, though!
Sorry about the TTC struggles and that your name was taken I love your outlook though!
I really like [name_m]Halloran[/name_m] as an alternative to [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]. Nowhere near the popularity and still sturdy yet playful. [name_m]Halloran[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] sounds darling!
Other H names:
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_m]Homer[/name_m] (good historical connection, although the Simpsons would be mentioned likely)
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] (pretty popular currently but still has a lot of historical backing)
[name_m]Hector[/name_m]
[name_m]Heath[/name_m]
[name_u]Holden[/name_u] (Depends on how you feel about the [name_m]Catcher[/name_m] and the Rye)
[name_u]Harry[/name_u]
More historical/literary/nerd names:
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m] (Sinclair [name_m]Lewis[/name_m], CS [name_m]Lewis[/name_m], etc) / [name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] (Van Gogh)
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] (To Kill a Mockingbird)
[name_u]Rhett[/name_u] (Gone with the Wind)
[name_u]Asher[/name_u] (the Giver)
[name_m]Elwyn[/name_m] (E.B. White)
[name_m]Gatsby[/name_m]
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] (Little Women)
[name_m]Roald[/name_m]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] (legend, [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Conan[/name_m] [name_m]Doyle[/name_m], etc)
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] (Tristan and Isolde)
[name_m]Hannibal[/name_m] (historical but might be tied to Dr. Lecter…)
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] (Tom Sawyer)
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m] is a great alternative - although I don’t know that I’d do [name_u]Archer[/name_u] and [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] in the same sibset due to [name_u]Harry[/name_u] and Meghan’s kid. Maybe [name_u]Holden[/name_u] instead? I could see [name_u]Holden[/name_u] as a sibling to [name_u]Archer[/name_u], [name_m]Becket[/name_m], and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]. [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe Indigo/Indiana nn [name_u]Indy[/name_u] as a nod to [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] if the [name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] thing is off-putting.
When I think of [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], I go straight to [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] (missionary), so I think of another missionary-or-religious hero like [name_m]Spurgeon[/name_m], [name_m]Livingstone[/name_m] (David Livingstone), [name_m]Judson[/name_m] (Adoniram Judson… also rhymes with [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] lol), [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] (Jim & [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] Elliot), Nathaniel/Nathan (Nate Saint), [name_m]Luther[/name_m] (Martin Luther), [name_m]Carmichael[/name_m] (Amy Carmichael), etc. But uh, if that wasn’t your goal and you’re not very religious, I’m not sure any of these will mean anything to you lol! I still think Livingston(e) is a really cool surnamey pick though, but maybe quite a bit more unusual than [name_u]Archer[/name_u], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] & [name_m]Becket[/name_m].
Other fun surnamey picks that would fit well with [name_u]Archer[/name_u], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], & [name_m]Becket[/name_m]:
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_u]Sumner[/name_u]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Jack[/name_u] (not necessarily surnamey but always reminds me of [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] because I have seen at least 2, probably more than that, characters out there named [name_u]Jack[/name_u] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] in TV shows and books etc.)
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]
[name_u]Bennett[/name_u]
[name_u]Grayson[/name_u]
[name_u]Campbell[/name_u]
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]
[name_u]Reid[/name_u]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_u]Nolan[/name_u]
[name_m]Gatsby[/name_m]
[name_u]Crosby[/name_u]
Thank you all so much! I’m coming to love [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] a lot more (and the Archer/Harrison connection doesn’t bug me at all … I don’t follow [name_f]English[/name_f] political stuff, especially all the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] drama). I’m adding [name_u]August[/name_u] (if I don’t do Archer), tentatively [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], maybe Health (or Hart?), [name_u]Reid[/name_u], [name_u]Asher[/name_u], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], and I do love [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_u]Henry[/name_u], though they may be a little too traditional for me … [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] is such a great name, though.
