[name_f]Ines[/name_f] has been in my top 5 usable girl names, if not the top 3 but recently I’ve been reconsidering that.
why I’m reconsidering Ines/Iines
started to love the name because my drama class was making a play and I played a character named Iines (pn. EE-nes, the ee sound is long) (the Finnish version of Ines) and me and my friend wrote almost all her parts in the script.
The problem is that two really mean classmates of me named her - after one of those classmates (Iines is apparently her middle name)
This may sound silly but if I named a child [name_f]Ines[/name_f] or Iines, it sort of feels like I essentially would name her after the mean person because that’s where the character name came from.
Any names that feel similar to [name_f]Ines[/name_f]? I like [name_f]Inessa[/name_f] but I don’t love it.
For reference my girl shortlist includes [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Linnea[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Estelle[/name_f].
That’s to bad since [name_f]Ines[/name_f] is a beautiful name! First of all, before I think of other names, would changing the spelling help? [name_f]Inez[/name_f] is zippy and elegant, and is also a correct way to spell the name. Maybe that would take away some of the association?
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought is of [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]- a variant of [name_f]Ines[/name_f]. One of the reasons [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] is my top name is because I love how she works in so many languages (including Ines(z) in Spanish!) I pronounce it ag-nes, but when I am using her in other languages like [name_u]French[/name_u], I say Awn-Yes Maybe you would like the Awn-yes way of saying it, because it does sound similar to [name_f]Ines[/name_f]. (I’m terrible at explaining how to pronounce it, but you can look it up. Its a more fluid sound, I guess?)
You might also like [name_f]Agnessa[/name_f]? or [name_f]Inessa[/name_f]?
A couple wild card suggestions: [name_f]Odessa[/name_f]- Has a similar feel to [name_f]Ines[/name_f] because of the similarity in sound, but I also think it fits with the rest of your list so well. She’s dainty, pretty, international, and has the same delicate yet strong ballet aesthetic that your other girls have. For me, because of the conflict in Ukraine right now, she’s a bit more of a GP, but I have only good associations (including to the city-which is a beautiful place!) [name_f]Irene[/name_f]-Again, maybe looks similar to [name_f]Ines[/name_f] because of the overlap in L, E, and N? I think she’s super sweet and graceful and the meaning “peace” is beautiful. She also fits with your other names so well. Ness-A little out there, but could work? Has a similar vibe to [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and those kind of nickname names, and she has the same meaning as [name_f]Ines[/name_f]. I personally would use her as a nickname for a longer name, maybe [name_f]Nerissa[/name_f], [name_f]Narcissa[/name_f], [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f], or somethings like that.
I know nothing can replace [name_f]Ines[/name_f], but hopefully something here sparked your interest!
Thank you! [name_f]Irene[/name_f] is on my longlist already and Ness is nice too. [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] is pretty, but I’m pretty it’s the Russian spelling of the city (I believe the Ukrainian one would be Odesa) and I wouldn’t use it because of the current conflict. [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] isn’t my personal style, but I can see why you suggested it!
It is the Russian/English adapted spelling. Agree about being uncomfortable using it. I think it’s so gorgeous (I do like the double S spelling better, but the single S is the actual name of the city and also beautiful)
[name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like [name_f]Irene[/name_f]! So under-rated!
