We still have a ways to go in this pregnancy, but it takes us a long time to hammer out names. Our top girl’s name is [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and I’ve been really thinking it feels right. (I also have ancestors from [name_f]Islay[/name_f], so there’s that as well). However, a relative has just named their newborn [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. It’s not someone that we see all the time, but we’re a close enough family that referencing two Islas might be a bit problematic.
We have no middle yet. There will be a family surname as the second middle (likely [name_m]Davis[/name_m]) and the surname begins with Th.
The remainder of our higher priority list is (no particular order):
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] (love, but do not like [name_m]Al[/name_m] or [name_u]Allie[/name_u])
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (think of the tattooed lady somewhat)
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] (have a cousin with a [name_f]Claire[/name_f] we see yearly; not sure if people will say [name_u]CLARE[/name_u]-ah or CLA-rah)
I absolutely love [name_f]Isla[/name_f]! I can understand not wanting a super popular name, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with giving your baby the same name a relative chose. If [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is the name for you, I would go for it
That said, I really like most of your other suggestions, especially [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], and [name_f]Thea[/name_f] (they all have the same short and sweet feel as [name_f]Isla[/name_f]).
Names that are somewhat similar:
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f] (Eh-lee-sa) [name_f]Isla[/name_f] has always been my top girl’s name, but if it gets too popular here in the US, I’ll go with [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] (or maybe as a sister, who knows?:)).
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] (love this find!)
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] (love this one too)
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Laila[/name_f]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is so beautiful and such a find! I also love you shortlist of names, including [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] as the closest to [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. [name_f]Alice[/name_f], I think, is perfect and the problem about nicknames is solved because [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is short enough that it doesn’t really need a nickname. If not, though, here are some more suggestions:
[name_f]Myra[/name_f] or [name_f]Mira[/name_f]
[name_f]Britta[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is gorgeous, and I love that it has some significance to your heritage. If you’re certain you don’t want to use it as a first, you could use [name_f]Isla[/name_f] (or [name_f]Isle[/name_f]) in the middle. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] has a nice ring to it. Or [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Isle[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Isle[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Isle[/name_f]…
I think you might get annoyed at sharing [name_f]Isla[/name_f] since it’s unusual, but like the idea of using it as a middle name. I like [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] from your list, as well as suggestion [name_f]Mira[/name_f]. Other ideas: [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f], [name_f]Ailish[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_u]Mirin[/name_u], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
