Alternatives to Judith

Hello, everyone! So, Judith Cascadia has been on our list for a long time, and we still love it. But, the husband thinks Judith might be a little tame for us. We both have uncommon names and this is one of our more common choices. So, I was looking for some alternatives to Judith. We did have Meredith on the list, but ended up crossing it off since we like Meridel better. Do you have any suggestions for alternatives? And what do you think of Elswyth and Luneth?

[name_m]Ah[/name_m], I love [name_f]Julietta[/name_f] and [name_f]Ferelith[/name_f] is on our middle name list. Maybe I should take a look at [name_f]Ferelith[/name_f] as a first. Thank you!

Hmmm. Elethwin is very interesting. We love [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] too. What is the origin and meaning if you don’t mind me asking?

Sorry I have spelt this phonetically and therefore incorrectly. The actual spelling is Eledhwen but it is said E-leth-wyn. It is actually a Tolkien name( [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings) I’d therefore class it as a literary name? It means Elf-maiden.
[name_f]My[/name_f] son’s friend actually has this name in his school and she is bright and sweet. She gets called Lethy for short. Sorry if [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings isn’t your thing lol. I just thought it was such a pretty, uncommon name.

Im not sure where you are from but it sounds like you could love a lot of the old Anglo [name_u]Saxon[/name_u] or Cornish or Welsh names. [name_f]May[/name_f] be worth a look

Oh, thank you! I do love [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings and Eledhwen and Elethwin are gorgeous! I am multicultural, as is my husband (though we don’t “share” any of the cultures that make us up). I greatly appreciate the suggestion and will look at some of the old Anglo-Saxon, Cornish and Welsh names. Thank you!

That’s brilliant that you like it! I really like it too. It sounds like a beautiful princess name but sounds strong too. Like she could lead an army lol! I’m happy to suggest some other names if I have the right vibe. I’ll see what I can find

If you like Anglo-Saxon sounding names, what do you think of…

  • Emrys (Nameberry labels it a boy’s name, but I think it works for a girl, too!)
  • Lilawyn
  • Lariad (don’t know if it’s actually a real name, but I like it!)
  • Winifred
  • Eowyn (Lord of The Rings name)
  • Morwen (LOTR name)
  • Haleth (LOTR name)
  • Olwen/Olwyn
  • Elspeth

I love so many of these! We’re trying to narrow down our massive list, but I’m going to add some of these to it and consult my husband. Thank you so much for the suggestions!

My first thought, but may not be what you had in mind, was Judit. It shares the same, spunky sound as Judith. But just the little change in pronunciation sounds much fresher.

Others with that punchy -th sound
Asenath
Gyneth
Maeleth

I also thought of
Ceinwen
Ceridwen
Eilis
Eirian
Liadan
Nolwenn

You’re welcome. I’m sorry if I added to the list  but I’m glad you like some.

I do like [name_f]Judit[/name_f], but it doesn’t sound great with our last name. I love Maeleth and [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Liadan[/name_f], thank you!

Oh, it’s not a problem. I love collecting names and if I don’t use them for a child, I’ll likely use them for a character, so thanks again!

I’m not sure how I feel about [name_f]Luneth[/name_f] yet, to be frank. I think I do like it more than Luna. Thank you for the suggestions!
