My husband and I are expecting our first child in [name_u]July[/name_u] and we just found out it’s a boy. We were very aligned on girls names but we are REALLY struggling with boys. It’s caused a lot of tears and restless nights. I feel very strongly about the name [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], however it’s a hard no from my husband. He really likes [name_m]Keiran[/name_m], which I do like, but it just doesn’t feel right to me. My maiden name is Kagan and I feel like if we were going to go with a K-N name we should use that. I also just had a cousin name his baby [name_u]Keegan[/name_u] which is very similar.
The reasons I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] are because it’s different (I don’t know a single [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]) but not crazy. I like the way it sounds, looks, etc. I like that it’s classic but there (hopefully) won’t be 100 other Rowans in his class. I really want something different, but not weird. We also both seem to like Irish/Scottish/Gaelic names.
Other names I like (which he doesn’t) include [name_m]Ford[/name_m], [name_m]Callan[/name_m], [name_m]Caelan[/name_m], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Graham[/name_m].
Other than [name_m]Keiran[/name_m], my husband seems to really like “out there” names - [name_m]Quill[/name_m], [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], etc. which are just too different for me.
So I thought I’d throw it out to the group - taking into account everything above, can you please suggest some other baby boys names that might work for us?
I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], though I like [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] even more. I agree that [name_m]Quill[/name_m] and [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] are pretty out there.
Kagan would be a great compromise for [name_u]Kieran[/name_u], and I love the idea of using your maiden name.
Seconding these alternatives to [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] from previous posters:
[name_u]Rohan[/name_u]
[name_u]Roan[/name_u]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
Some that I think hasn’t been mentioned yet that I like:
[name_m]Roald[/name_m]
[name_u]Robin[/name_u]
[name_m]Rowley[/name_m]
[name_m]Arrow[/name_m]
[name_m]Rogan[/name_m]
[name_m]Roderick[/name_m]
[name_m]Royden[/name_m]
[name_m]Roman[/name_m]/[name_u]Romy[/name_u]
[name_m]Rowland[/name_m]
[name_m]Roel[/name_m]
Some names that have a similar feel to [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]:
[name_m]Donovan[/name_m]
[name_m]Finnegan[/name_m]
[name_m]Raiden[/name_m]
[name_m]Ryland[/name_m]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Russell[/name_m]
I absolutely love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]!, but I too, am getting a hard no from my husband. His other suggestions are [name_m]Roman[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_m]Augustine[/name_m]/ [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I’m totally on your boat but maybe offering some of my husband’s suggestions/alternatives might help with your struggle. Good luck!!
I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] (my only reservation with the second name is that it will be more difficult for some people to spell and he’ll have to spell it out all the time).
I’d incorporate both possibly if you can’t agree on a name, possibly:
