Alternatives to Salem?

Lately I’ve been crushing on [name_u]Salem[/name_u]. I love the sound of it and the connection to the [name_u]Salem[/name_u] Witch Trials don’t bother me. What is prevent me from using it is the only girl’s name OH and I can agree on is [name_u]Blaire[/name_u] which reminds everyone of the [name_u]Blair[/name_u] Witch Project. A sibset of [name_u]Blaire[/name_u] and [name_u]Salem[/name_u] is just too witch-y for me.
Any alternatives would be much appreciated.

[name_f]Salome[/name_f] and [name_u]Shalom[/name_u] are derived from the same source as [name_u]Salem[/name_u], I believe.

Maybe [name_f]Sable[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilium[/name_f]?

Not sure whether you’re referring to [name_u]Salem[/name_u] on a boy or a girl…

Boys:
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Abram[/name_m]
[name_m]Noam[/name_m]
[name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]

Girls:
[name_u]Seren[/name_u]
[name_u]Sailor[/name_u]
(And the other suggestions!)

[name_u]Shiloh[/name_u]? It’s a Biblical place name with a similar sound and a unisex feel. (I love [name_u]Salem[/name_u], by the way, although I wouldn’t use it myself because of the witch trials)

[name_u]Blaise[/name_u] maybe?

It’s funny, my fiance and I like [name_u]Salem[/name_u] all the way up until the other day when we discovered we have a VERY eccentric family member with that name. We opted to take it off the list.

If [name_u]Salem[/name_u]'s for a girl:

  • [name_u]Shalom[/name_u]
  • [name_f]Salome[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Samina[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Sela[/name_f]
  • [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u]
  • [name_f]Sable[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]

If [name_u]Salem[/name_u]'s for a boy:

  • [name_m]Noam[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Soren[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Stellan[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Bram[/name_m]
  • [name_u]Seren[/name_u]

Thanks everyone. I haven’t decided if I like it better on a boy or a girl.
I like [name_m]Soren[/name_m] a lot and while I love [name_u]Seren[/name_u] it’s really similar in sound to my own name and I believe there’s a nerve gas called Sarin gas that has a similar pronunciation.
[name_u]Shilo[/name_u] is actually kind of cute. It isn’t one I had ever given much thought to.
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] normally isn’t my style but it seems to fit with OH’s style definitely wouldn’t seem out of place at family functions.

[name_m]Silas[/name_m]? I think it has the exact same charm that [name_u]Salem[/name_u] has. Maybe that’s just me though!

Oh, I like [name_m]Silas[/name_m]. That’s going on the list.

[name_u]Shilo[/name_u] is a pretty great name… but I might be bit bias :stuck_out_tongue:

I second the suggestion of [name_m]Silas[/name_m]. It was my first thought. Maybe [name_u]Fable[/name_u], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], [name_m]Thayer[/name_m], [name_m]Hayes[/name_m]

[name_u]Salem[/name_u] is so pretty! I’d use it for a girl. So, with that said. . .
Here are some other options:

[name_u]Satchel[/name_u]
[name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]
[name_u]Skye[/name_u]
Sanibel
Sellers
[name_f]Selah[/name_f]
Shalee
Saylee

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped some!!

I like [name_u]Sage[/name_u] and [name_u]Sloane[/name_u]. [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] sounds cool but last name is 2 syllables and ends in -er so its a no go.

Jerusalem NN [name_u]Salem[/name_u]

That one’s different. Going on my gp list.

We have the same tastes because I love [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Salem[/name_u] and [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] all 3 of which are kinda iffy with people. I was going to use [name_u]Salem[/name_u] and didn’t care about the witchy connotation but then someone reminded me that it is also a popular brand of cigarette. So, sadly I gave it up. I’ll happily suggest [name_f]Samara[/name_f] though. Pronounced Sa-MAHR-[name_m]Ah[/name_m] I think it’s lovely and has a little unique something like [name_u]Salem[/name_u].

Oh, do you like [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]? We are using [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. I’m just throwing it out there since our tastes are so similar.

I never really thought of the cigarettes, I known they exist but wher I work doesn’t sell a lot of them. Maybe a pack a week so it never struck me as popular.
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] is nice as is [name_f]Samara[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Samara[/name_f] a bit more than [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] though.

Personally, I could never use [name_u]Salem[/name_u], but I live in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] so it’s too close by for people to forget the connotations. Have you thought of [name_m]Severin[/name_m] or [name_f]Severine[/name_f]? Or maybe check out maps for other interesting town names?

My first thought was [name_f]Salima[/name_f] or [name_f]Selima[/name_f].

Thanks ladies! Off to find a map! That could be a challenge.

[name_f]Selma[/name_f] is a town I’ve visited, same letters, different order. [name_f]Salma[/name_f] might be better though, as in [name_f]Salma[/name_f] Hayek. I think of [name_u]Salem[/name_u] as a boy’s name and [name_m]Salvator[/name_m] feels similar to me.
