Alternatives to the name Olga :/

Kind forum visitors,

I’m really frustrated with this one. Not to annoy anyone with the reasons behind my search, just going to say that I’m looking for an alternative to the name [name_f]Olga[/name_f]. Something that is much more pleasant sounding, modern, and… so to say, better fitting into the English-speaking community.

I’ve searched high and low for different variations, and even though there are some names that I liked, still I always end up with a feeling that something is off. Maybe the underlying reason for this is the fact that I’m not so fond of the so-called “starting point name”. Nonetheless, I’m left with this huge frustration, and I desperately need some advice here. So, if you have any suggestions, whether more common or rather creative, you are more than welcome to share.

Also, it doesn’t have to sound the same - as long as the name has an O and an L somewhere in it - it’s okay. Meaning, if it can be shortened to [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], or something like that, it’s all fine.

Thanks for reading this, and happy [name_m]New[/name_m] Year

[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Orly[/name_f]
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f]

Or, according to Behind the Name, [name_f]Laila[/name_f] is a Finnish variant of [name_f]Olga[/name_f].

Some “out there” suggestions:

*[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] shares all of [name_f]Olga[/name_f]'s letters (plus two)
*[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] means roughly the same thing as [name_f]Olga[/name_f] (“holy”)
*[name_f]Holly[/name_f] sounds like holy
*[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] could give you “[name_u]Ollie[/name_u]”

Alternatively, assuming you’re looking to honor somebody, what about looking elsewhere for inspiration? Where was she born? What was her favorite flower? Color?

Hmmm…Oleander (a flower), [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Odelia[/name_f]…that’s all I can think of, except for [name_f]Olive[/name_f], but I dislike that one. Good luck!

I’ve always adored [name_f]Olya[/name_f], the diminutive of [name_f]Olga[/name_f]. It does sort of scream ‘Russian’ but I think it would work nicely in an English-speaking country as well - the biggest misunderstanding I can imagine is that people may say Ahl-ya instead of Ohl-ya. I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Olympia[/name_f].

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is popular but beautiful. [name_f]Olivine[/name_f] is a rarer form of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and also a semi-precious jewel.

[name_f]Opal[/name_f] is probably my single most beloved O name.
