Althea

Lately I have been loving [name_f]Althea[/name_f]. What are your thoughts on the name?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Theia[/name_f] ([name_f]Thea[/name_f], I just prefer this spelling of it) or [name_f]Althea[/name_f]?

I love [name_f]Althea[/name_f]. It sounds ancient and grounded and literary. It is less used than [name_f]Thea[/name_f], which while also a great name, has the potential challenge of multiple pronunciations.

I really like [name_f]Althea[/name_f] and I think it’s my preference. It’s unusual but familiar at the same time

I like it. It’s old fashioned, sweet & strong sounding. I mainly love the nn [name_f]Thea[/name_f], but actually prefer [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] to [name_f]Althea[/name_f]. A little more whimsical and a little less old lady.

[name_f]Althea[/name_f] is beautiful. It’s great because it offers multiple nicknames like [name_f]Theia[/name_f]/[name_f]Thea[/name_f] or [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. A friend just named her daughter [name_f]Althea[/name_f] and they’ve been calling her [name_f]Tea[/name_f] (like tee-uhh) or Tee (like the letter).

I’ve also been loving [name_f]Alethea[/name_f]. That extra eee sound is really pretty and feminine.

Thank you for your replies

I prefer [name_f]Althea[/name_f]. It’s familiar, yet not at all common. I actually met an elderly woman with this name just last week and thought to myself just how nice it was. It’s the first time I’ve ever actually seen it in use. The only issue I have with [name_f]Althea[/name_f] is the potential of nickname [name_f]Ally[/name_f]/[name_u]Allie[/name_u], which I myself really dislike, and think diminishes its magic.

[I do prefer both [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] and [name_f]Alethea[/name_f], but [name_f]Althea[/name_f] is lovely too]

In prefer [name_f]Althea[/name_f] too!
[name_m]Ive[/name_m] read a book with an amazing character called [name_f]Althea[/name_f]

I absolutely looooooove [name_f]Althea[/name_f]. I much prefer it to just [name_f]Thea[/name_f], although I like that name, too. And if you go with the full [name_f]Althea[/name_f], there is always the possibility of using [name_f]Thea[/name_f] as a nickname, anyway, should you or she decide you prefer it.

I’d also like to second a previous poster by throwing the name [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] in there for consideration. I went to school with an absolutely brilliant [name_f]Alethea[/name_f], and I’ve been a big fan of the sound of it and the meaning (‘truth’) my whole life!

Thanks for the replies.

[name_f]Althea[/name_f] is one of my favorite names so I obviously prefer it to [name_f]Theia[/name_f]. [name_f]Althea[/name_f] “[name_f]Thea[/name_f]” could work, though.
