Alyce?

[name]How[/name] would you pronounce [name]Alyce[/name]? [name]Al[/name]-iss or [name]Ah[/name]-lease? If you choose the former how would you get to the pronunciation ah-lease?

To get ah-lease I’d probably spell it [name]Alise[/name]. I have an [name]Alisa[/name] (A-lisa) as a friend so I would just change the last letter of her name to [name]Alise[/name] to get ah-lease.

Yeah - [name]Alyce[/name] just looks like [name]Alice[/name] with a y. [name]Alys[/name] is an old medieval variation, and [name]Alyssa[/name] is prn’d like [name]Alice[/name]-a (roughly), so, not ah-lease. In addition to [name]Alise[/name], there’s the even more legit [name]Elise[/name], the difference is subtle.

I would pronounce it [name]Alice[/name] and if somebody told me their name was “ah-lease” I would spell it [name]Elise[/name].

I know two girls named, [name]Ah[/name]-lease spelled [name]Alyse[/name] and [name]Alyce[/name]

I might assume “[name]Elise[/name].” I do strongly prefer just [name]Alice[/name]. I think the Irish, Ailís (AY-leesh) and the Medieval French Aalis (same prn as [name]Alice[/name]) are wonderful too.
I can see how with [name]Zo[/name]ë and [name]Isaac[/name], you might want something a bit more offbeat than just [name]Alice[/name].
[name]Alys[/name] is more intuitive to me, but slinkier than [name]Alice[/name].
[name]Aliz[/name] shares the Z with [name]Zo[/name]ë.

I agree. I think that if it’s [name]Alice[/name] you’re going for, then stick to [name]Alice[/name]. If the sound you’re going for is [name]Elise[/name], then go with [name]Elise[/name].

To me [name]Alyce[/name] looks like a misspelling of [name]Alice[/name].

I would probably say [name]Alise[/name], like [name]Elise[/name] with an A, or maybe just [name]Elise[/name]?

Thanks everyone… I think [name]Alise[/name] might be better to get to what I want.

You’ve started a new thread with [name]Alyse[/name] - [name]Alyce[/name] is definitely [name]Alice[/name] to me, but [name]Alyse[/name] could be [name]Alise[/name]/[name]Elise[/name].

I wouldn’t. That’s my friend’s middle name and she complains that everyone misreads it as [name]Alice[/name], when it’s supposed to be pronounced like [name]Elise[/name].
