My new combo, [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose hasn’t really received a warm welcome on NB. Most of the comments state that it sounds silly and stupid, and because of the repeating ‘oo’ sound, the combo evokes the image of a goofy cartoon character. These negative comments break my heart but I absolutely understand what you mean. You’re right.
On the other hand, in another thread, I asked about a sibset that included [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose and a sweet NB member posted this adorable description of her idea of a little boy with this name: “[name_m]Rufus[/name_m] has dimples, and the cutest grin loves to collect things, his pockets are always filled with rocks, bugs, leaves, small snakes, frogs ect. He also loves animals and hates seeing them hurt”. My heart melted because this is exactly the adventurous, generous, smart and bold little boy that I imagine as [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose.
What do you think? Is [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose really terrible? Can you picture an adorable, outdoorsy and playful little boy with this name?
He’ll only be a little boy for a short time and I don’t think it would wear well on most adults. I don’t care for Moose but maybe [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] in the middle spot?
I’m going to say no. Neither name is ok imo. And together? Definitely no. I can picture the cute little boy and then myself feeling sorry for him for having to go through life with that name.
I see why you like it. It is quite an adorable name, and that description is lovely. However, I think this name should be relegated to the guilty pleasure spot. As lovely as it is, one of the previous posters is right in saying that it would probably not wear well as an adult. It is very cutesy for a grown man. [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] is a perfectly fine name, and if you want to use it, I’d say go for it. However, I would steer away from using Moose. Still, it is an adorable combo
Agree with ccar72 , [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] is fine as a fn, it’s the Moose as a mn that ‘throws it off’. You could always use Moose as a nn at home, but I rec a different mn.
Ofc, mn are where ppl can be daring: just look at that article about using ‘[name_m]Danger[/name_m]’ as a mn! And it seemed like [name_f]Pam/name_f thought it was fine, even though I think it’s a little ridiculous.
In the end, it’s up to you to decide what name he will carry.
I think it’s adorable! [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] is a great name, and honestly the middle name isn’t often heard outside of the home, so I don’t think that it would be much of an issue. If you really like it, I would go for it =)
[name_m]Rufus[/name_m] is cute! Sorry to say I don’t like Moose. [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] or [name_m]Bear[/name_m] would be better options if you like animal names. You could call him [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose as a nickname and give him a more traditional middle name to balance out the quirkiness of [name_m]Rufus[/name_m]. [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] nn [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose when he’s little. Or [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] [name_m]Mose[/name_m]?
I think both names are fine (though I don’t personally like [name_m]Rufus[/name_m]); it’s just the sound of them together that isn’t so good, with the matching “oo” sounds in the middle and “s” sounds at the end. Moose is a pretty cute middle name to me actually! I don’t think it’s silly at all, since moose are very strong animals. Maybe you could use Moose as a second middle name so the sounds don’t clash as much. A pp suggested [name_u]James[/name_u] so how about [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] Moose?
I really want to love [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose! I saw it in your signature a few days ago (on the WOW thread, I think!), and thinking how adorable Moose was as a nature name (just got back from holiday in Minnesota, and I love how all your boys’ names remind me of the landscapes there!), but I don’t think [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose sounds ideal. rUfus mOOse is already singsongy, but then the rufUS mOOSE adds to a bit more awkwardness, and I just don’t think sounds ideal. I tried to say it out loud quickly, and it came out almost like [name_m]Rufus[/name_m]-muss.
I love [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] (why’d we ever give that one to dogs, anyway?!), and I think Moose is adorable, but I’m not sure I would put them together? I can see both the adorable outdoorsy, kind, adventurous little boy and the goofy cartoon character. If you really, really love it, I would go for it, but I don’t think it sounds completely ideal. (Then again, I don’t think it has to be. I think a lot of Berries put so many rules on combos–can’t start the same, can’t end the same, you can’t have -le L- or S- -s… you have to have a certain flow for a name to be okay–but I don’t think you need all those rules, honestly. If [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose makes your heart skip a beat, keep it. It’s worth it.)
I love this suggestion. [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] and Moose are cute separately, but right next to each other it’s too much. Another name in the middle may help break that up.
Personally not a fan of the combination, or of the name Moose, but since other animal names like [name_m]Bear[/name_m], [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] and [name_m]Fox[/name_m] are popular, why not Moose?
But what about [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] middlename with Moose as a nickname?
I think this name falls into the unuseably awesome. It sounds fun to say and I give total credit for using a more uncommon nature name, but I think it’s just too much together. And if the poor kid has a lisp…
In other words, definitely continue to love it for the great gp it is!
I agree with a previous poster that berries tend to put a lot of rules for what names can be used together. I wouldn’t let one of those be a show stopper unless the first and last name were truly unbearable together.
However, I also agree that [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose sounds very cutesy and juvenile. He won’t be that little boy you picture for very long at all. He may never even be the image you have conjured for a little [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] Moose.
Unless the name has some truly important personal connection to you or the child, I 100% vote no.
