Am I mad to like Brooke?

I really adore the name [name]Brooke[/name], and have done for a long time. It’s kind of a guilty pleasure name for me because I know it has a bit of a dated 80s vibe, it doesn’t at all match my other favourite names ([name]Claudia[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Mirabelle[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Alice[/name]) and it’s very popular in the UK (number 39 at the mo).

So I’m looking for an alternative name that gives me a similar vibe but doesn’t feel dated and overly popular, and matches my other names better. Can anyone suggest anything? I think I love the nature theme of [name]Brooke[/name], I love the strength and the simplicity of the name and that a “[name]Brooke[/name]” feels like a warm, friendly but strong girl.

Does anyone else out there like [name]Brooke[/name]? And can you think of any names with either a similar sound or a similar vibe? Most of you will probably think I’m mad but I’m sure there are also some closet [name]Brooke[/name] fans out there!

I like [name]Brooke[/name]! The only thing that puts me off is a horrible girl I knew called [name]Brooke[/name]. Funny how a person can ruin a name for you.
I think [name]Bay[/name] has a similar laidback, nature-esque feel to it, but I don’t think it would go with your other favourite names (which are all stunning, btw). Have you thought about [name]Mayim[/name]? It’s Hebrew for water and one of my most favourite names. Also [name]Tallulah[/name] means leaping water and I think it would go nicely with your other names. Hearing that name makes me all happy and I envision a [name]Tallulah[/name] as being calm, strong, friendly and beautiful!

The name [name]Bridget[/name] gives of the same vibe, imo. It has a similar beginning sound as well. No nature ties, though… and I’m not sure if it “goes” with your other faves.

In response to your post , no , you are not mad to like [name]Brooke[/name]. For the longest i loved it as a first name and still love it as a name but now i find it more useful as a middle name. Other names that give the vibe of [name]Brooke[/name]:
[name]Britt[/name]
[name]Beth[/name]
[name]Leigh[/name]
[name]Kate[/name]
[name]Jade[/name]
[name]Cale[/name]

I think [name]Brooke[/name] is a great name. You’re not crazy at all.

alternatives:
[name]Devon[/name]
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Meadow[/name]
[name]Maren[/name]

I really like the name [name]Brooke[/name], and always have! I think it makes a great middle name. Other names that come to mind are:

[name]Blair[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Paige[/name]

I like [name]Brooke[/name] too. We nixed it b/c of DH’s ex-gf. I know a Brookye - pronounced [name]Brook[/name]-ee. Cute nn. If you like [name]Brooke[/name], don’t look for others! :-)Though I agree that [name]Paige[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Grace[/name] all have the same feel.

@ [name]Lauren[/name] [name]Kay[/name] - Thank you  I love [name]Bay[/name], I have kind of an alternative list of names I love too that don’t really go with my main names but I love equally that are shorter, simpler and bohemian, names like [name]Ivy[/name] (well that one’s on both lists!), [name]Tessa[/name], [name]Claudie[/name], [name]Wren[/name], [name]Liv[/name], [name]Gia[/name], [name]Iris[/name] etc, and I think [name]Bay[/name] would work with them although it does have a bit of a masculine feel to me. I love the sound of it though and well keep it in mind! [name]Mayim[/name]'s lovely but doesn’t go with our last name ([name]Morgan[/name]) - too many M’s! And I adore [name]Tallulah[/name], I actually rpefer it spelt the Irish way [name]Talullah[/name], but my partner’s not keen and although I like quite flouncy names, I think it’s a bit too frilly for me.

@ [name]Lainy[/name] - hi [name]Lainy[/name], the nature theme isn’t essential and I do like [name]Bridget[/name], it’s on my long list at the mo but I just don’t [name]LOVE[/name] it, you know? It has everything I look for in a name but for some reason I can’t click with it. It feels a little frumpy and clumsy to me if that makes any sense!

@ icey100 names - thank you  [name]Glad[/name] someone else loves [name]Brooke[/name] too! Of your list I like [name]Kate[/name] but I know too many of them unfortunately lol.

@ elsie - [name]Hi[/name] [name]Erica[/name]! Great to hear from you  [name]How[/name] are the girls? Well I hope! [name]Devon[/name]'s lovely but I know a little boy [name]Devon[/name] so couldn’t use it, [name]Grace[/name] is gorgeous but top a 10 name in the UK so I wouldn’t use it. [name]Meadow[/name]'s probably too out there for me. I like [name]Avery[/name] although I find it a little masculine, but I’ll think about it some more. And I adore [name]Maren[/name], it’s one of my fav’s and would honour my mother and [name]MIL[/name] ([name]Karen[/name] and [name]Marilyn[/name]!) but I don’t like the sound of [name]Maren[/name] [name]Morgan[/name] :frowning: And I don’t like repeating initials and [name]Mirabelle[/name]'s already on the list.

@ kyemsma - thanks! I love [name]Blair[/name]! I can’t decide if it’s too boyish tho and also if its too “Gossip Girl” these days?

@ grey 56 - [name]Brookie[/name] is a cute nn for a toddler  I like the idea of using [name]Bea[/name] as well  Thanks!

Does anyone think spelling it [name]Brook[/name] makes it more of a nature name and less of a dated 80s name (as Nameberry says it does?) or do you think it just creates spelling problems and looks more masculine? I can’t decide but think I prefer the [name]Brook[/name] spelling. Seems cleaner to me.

Thanks again for the input  My partner likes [name]Brook[/name] so it’ll stay on the list for now. I tried to sell him on [name]Blythe[/name] as an alternative but he said it’s too “old lady” :frowning: What is everyone else’s impression of [name]Blythe[/name]?

Thanks!

Woah, [name]Mayim[/name] [name]Morgan[/name] is [name]WAY[/name] too many Ms haha! [name]Glad[/name] you like [name]Bay[/name]
I do like [name]Blythe[/name] but I actually prefer it as a mn. I had a friend who’s ln was [name]Blythe[/name] and I always used to call her by her full name ([name]Erin[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]) because I thought it sounded so beautiful.
Also just as a sidenote, what do you think of [name]Tullia[/name]? I knew a little Irish girl called [name]Tullia[/name] a few years ago and think it’s such a pretty name. Very similar to [name]Talullah[/name], but not as “showgirl” to me for some reason. Also gets the adorable [name]Tully[/name] nn. Does that appeal any more or any less?

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Lauren[/name]

[name]Tullia[/name] is lovely, I have considered it before but it never quite sticks for me, not sure why. Also, it has a much softer feel to me than [name]Brooke[/name]. I quite look [name]Brooke[/name]'s strength and simplicity. Although my top names are all rather frilly and flouncy, I wouldn’t say that’s my style, it’s just that those are the names me and my partner agree on!

I don’t think he’s going to come around on [name]Blythe[/name] either, although last year when I asked him he liked it! Now that I’ve thrown [name]Brook[/name]/[name]Brooke[/name] into the mix, he much prefers that but I hate how popular it is.

I’m also still thinking about [name]Bryony[/name], [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Bronte[/name], [name]Betrys[/name], Betsan, [name]Briana[/name] and [name]Blaire[/name]. I like the sound of [name]Bardot[/name] (since I’m a huge fan of [name]Margot[/name] and can’t use it because [name]Margot[/name] [name]Morgan[/name] sounds ridiculous! lol) but don’t know if it’s a bit too “celeb baby” and maybe pretentious sounding? Also I worry about [name]Brigitte[/name] [name]Bardot[/name] as a namesake since she is a bit of a controversial figure and has been fined for insighting ratial hatred in the past :S - certainly not a trait I would want my children to admire!

A few others I’ve just discovered and would love feedback on are; [name]Bahira[/name], [name]Ballencia[/name], [name]Bayla[/name] (or [name]Beyla[/name], [name]Baila[/name], Beila - not sure which spelling would most likely give me the pronunciation bay-la, and which is most authentic), [name]Bethia[/name], [name]Biela[/name], [name]Blake[/name], [name]Bria[/name], [name]Brio[/name], [name]Briar[/name], [name]Brisa[/name] and [name]Britta[/name].

Any opinions or feedback on the above names would be fantastic!

Hello
I didn’t know [name]Brigette[/name] [name]Bardot[/name] was so controversial!
I really love [name]Bayla[/name] and [name]Britta[/name]. Always been a big supporter of [name]Britta[/name] and [name]Bayla[/name] sounds fresh and pretty. I also like it spelt Baylah, just because I’m crazy about sticking Hs on the end of things  [name]Briar[/name] is a beautiful name - always reminds me of Sleeping Beauty, but that’s not a bad thing! I really love [name]Blake[/name] on a girl too. It reminds me of the Gossip Girl actress, but to me that’s not a bad thing since I’ve never seen the show.
I’m a fan of [name]Bridget[/name] because you could use the nn [name]Bridie[/name] which I just adore.
Another girls name that I think sounds strong but feminine is [name]Bianca[/name]!

Awww I 'd so love to be able to use [name]Bianca[/name]. I asked my partner the other day, and whereas he usual says he’s “not sure about” names, or “doesn’t really like them”, he actually said he hated [name]Bianca[/name] and thought it was horrible so it’s definitely out :frowning: Had he said yes to [name]Bianca[/name] I think that would be the one. I’m pretty sure his reason is [name]Bianca[/name] on Eastenders! Lol.

I’m gonna try and run the others by him tonight, glad you like some of them  Hopefully I can noarrow it down from there. [name]Love[/name] working on name lists

DD is [name]Brooke[/name] and I don’t regret naming her that for a minute. She loves her name as well. So I say go for it, but I’m biased.

Thanks for sharing that  - Makes me realise I’m not mad and it is a lovely name! [name]Do[/name] you mind me asking how old your daughter is?

Does she go by any nicknames like [name]Bea[/name] or [name]Brookie[/name]? Or just [name]Brooke[/name]?

Thanks for the input!

Some nature name suggestions like [name]Brooke[/name]: [name]River[/name], [name]Skye[/name], [name]Rain[/name]/[name]Raine[/name]/Rhaine/[name]Rayne[/name]…

[name]Bahira[/name]–Not my style.
[name]Ballencia[/name]–Makes me think of an overpriced handbag, but I do like it!
[name]Bayla[/name] (or [name]Beyla[/name], [name]Baila[/name], Beila - not sure which spelling would most likely give me the pronunciation bay-la, and which is most authentic)–I think the spelling [name]Bayla[/name] would give you the most accurate pronunciation.
[name]Bethia[/name]–Looks like an embellishment of [name]Beth[/name], and I’m just not particularly a fan.
[name]Biela[/name]–[name]How[/name] are you pronouncing this? It looks cute…
[name]Blake[/name]–I like it better on boys.
[name]Bria[/name]–I like this upon first glance, but I cannot help thinking it’s stuck somewhere between [name]Brianna[/name] & [name]Bree[/name].
[name]Brio[/name]-Looks very masculine to me.
[name]Briar[/name]–This would go with your nature theme!
[name]Brisa[/name]–[name]How[/name] are you pronouncing this?
[name]Britta[/name]–Makes me think of a filter, to be honest.

I like [name]Brooke[/name] too, it’s my little sister’s name.

I only have two suggestions that I think you might like

[name]Baya[/name] (like [name]Bay[/name], but more feminine)
[name]Rayna[/name] (nature-y)

Correct me if I am wrong but I read “[name]How[/name] could a name nerd like me like a popular and almost out of vogue name like [name]Brooke[/name]?”.

I like [name]Brooke[/name] too and although it is almost neutral sounding gender wise it is definitely all girl to me although I think there will be a sprinkling of boys named [name]Brooks[/name] around. [name]Brooke[/name] is also a strong name with presence but her middle name would have to be very feminine like [name]Brooke[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] if I was to use it.

rollo

To me, [name]Brooke[/name] is a pleasant enough name, though NMS. To be honest, it does sound a bit dated to me, though, if that’s something that really bothers you.

I really like [name]Blythe[/name]. It”s such a gentle sounding name, yet at the same time its utter lack of frills lend it a certain strength. Too bad that you think you can”t sell your husband on this one!

Of the others that you”ve mentioned, I like [name]Briony[/name] (this spelling), [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Briar[/name] and [name]Blair[/name] (this spelling) a lot. [name]Bria[/name] is also okay, but it lacks a little something in my mind.

Other suggestions with [name]Brooke[/name]”s nature-y feel (apologies for repeats):

[name]Coral[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Fern[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Fleur[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Jade[/name]
[name]Saige[/name]
[name]Linnet[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Opal[/name]
[name]Linden[/name]

Other suggestions that share [name]Brooke[/name]”s no-frills appeal (again, apologies for repeats):

[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Cecile[/name]
[name]Anne[/name]
[name]Irene[/name]
[name]Petra[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Nell[/name]
[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Seren[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Thea[/name]
[name]Margo[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Simone[/name]
Esm”
[name]Ada[/name]
[name]June[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Gwen[/name]
[name]Elaine[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name]
[name]Tess/name
[name]Cass/name

Thanks guys but my sister is pregnant and if it’s a girl (she finds out in 2 weeks!) she’ll be calling her [name]Brooke[/name] so it’s out of the question for me now!

I still love it though and I’m very excited about the possibility of having a little niece called [name]Brooke[/name]

And [name]Rollo[/name] - yes that’s more or less what I was asking! It’s just that I know us name nerds tend to shy away from “dated” names and a lot of people consider [name]Brooke[/name] to be dated. I think the fact that it’s also a nature name, and so short and sweet (but strong) rescues it a little from the same fate as [name]Brittany[/name], [name]Tiffany[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name] etc.

Thanks for all the input!

Late to the party here but I just wanted to warn you about potentially using the name [name]Bay[/name] considering your last name is [name]Morgan[/name]. “[name]Bay[/name]” is a common coloration of horse (black mane with brown coat) and your last name, [name]Morgan[/name], is a breed of horse… lol. So, I’d cross [name]Bay[/name] off the list if I was you
