Amadeus?

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for this name. Today, my husband finally told me that he likes it too. It’s the only name that we really love. It has a fabulous meaning, and I adore the namesake, [name]Mozart[/name] - which is actually the music I walked down the aisle to. Plus [name]Mozart[/name] was from Salzburg, [name]Austria[/name], the home of my ancestors as well!

Is this absolutely ridiculous? Would it have to be only for a middle name?

We really don’t like any other names… not even similar ones like [name]Andreas[/name]. I think it’s weird that [name]Mozart[/name]'s first name, [name]Wolfgang[/name], can be used without such a strong association to him, but his middle name people automatically think of [name]Mozart[/name]…

Opinions?

I really like it, and the fact that it has personal significance to you. I think it is a strong name and not silly or indulgent. However, I am concerned about the lack of an apparent nickname (if you can think of a good one, then I take this back). The full name [name]Amadeus[/name] is probably too much for a young child to carry all the time, even in casual situations ("[name]Liam[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Amadeus[/name], time to come inside! Recess is over!"). If you and your husband can agree on another name, which you are going to have to do anyway unless you don’t plan on giving him a middle name, I would probably recommend putting [name]Amadeus[/name] in the middle.

As far as nicknames, we were thinking:
[name]Ame[/name] ([name]AH[/name]-may), Amo, [name]Ace[/name], [name]Maddie[/name], or Deyo… I’m sure we could come up with more.

In that case, I say go for it. I wouldn’t use [name]Maddie[/name] though, since it’s pretty thoroughly cemented as a girls’ nickname for [name]Madison[/name], [name]Madeline[/name], etc. Deyo is my favorite of the ones you have listed.

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Amadeus[/name]. And although I wouldn’t worry about a nickname (kiddos seem to inspire plenty!), I think [name]Ace[/name] is just about the most adorable nickname, ever.

[name]Hi[/name]! I think you should definitely go for it! [name]Mozart[/name] is a cool namesake, and it IS weird that people don’t automatically associate [name]Wolfgang[/name] with him. [name]Amadeus[/name] evidently has great sentimental value for you and your husband. It even includes a wonderful meaning! If it’s the only name you love, then I don’t see why you should settle for another that you don’t. The only problem I can think of is pronunciation issues. I would personally pair [name]Amadeus[/name] with a more common and classic middle name.

Definitely go for it. A great name, and you love it. The nickname will come to you all once you meet the little guy in person.

I love it, and the strong meaning it carries for you makes it even more of a winner!

I love it! But that is probably because we have [name]Andreas[/name] picked out for our first boy. I plan to use the nn [name]Ace[/name], which would word for [name]Amadeus[/name] too. I think the name needs a nn to tone it down a bit. I personally think the world could use a few more [name]Amadeus[/name]'s! You might want to give him a more traditional middle name so he has something to fall back on if [name]Amadeus[/name] isnt his style. We have [name]Andreas[/name] [name]Michael[/name] picked out.

It’s a bit too much name for my tastes, but it’s a perfectly acceptable name and it seems clear that you guys really have an affinity for it so I’d definitely say go for it

It’s not too crazy, though it has a lot of personality. The one downside I see is nickname options. Anyway, I have some suggestions:

[name]Amadeus[/name] [name]Milo[/name]
[name]David[/name] [name]Amadeus[/name]
[name]Edwin[/name] [name]Amadeus[/name]
[name]Amadeus[/name] [name]Milton[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name] [name]Amadeus[/name]
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Amadeus[/name]
[name]Mikel[/name] [name]Amadeus[/name]
[name]Amadeus[/name] [name]Grey[/name]

[name]Amadeus[/name] is a great name!!! another nn Deus, which I think is cool and edgy.

[name]Amadeus[/name] is cool! I love [name]Mozart[/name], so I think he’s a great namesake. And I love the nickname [name]Ace[/name] SO much. I like all your nickname options, apart from [name]Maddie[/name] simply because it’s such a girls name to me at this point. But personally I’m partial to [name]Ace[/name], though you really don’t need to worry about it yet because I’m sure your son’s personality will guide your nickname choice. I say go for [name]Amadeus[/name]! He’ll be the one anyone has ever met, yet it’s not a crazy name. Perfect!

I think it’s an awesome name, full of culture and history, I don’t think it will become too popualr (always a bonus), and given the special significance it holds for you I think it screams winner. I like the fact that it has 4 syllables too. NN for me would be [name]Adam[/name], Duece, Mad.

Good luck!!
