Someone important in my life (not family) is named [name_f]Amanda[/name_f]. For that reason I am considering adding it to my list of possible girl names. It seems to have been really popular in the mid 70s - mid 90s yet still doesn’t feel like a mom name to me. But I am curious how others see it. Is it dated? It doesn’t really seem to be a classic name in the sense that it only started to become really used in the late 60s, unless you go back to the late 1800s and even then it wasn’t super popular. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you compare say [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] to a name like [name_f]Emma[/name_f]?
I know a young [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] and her name really surprised me at first but it suited her well
I like [name_f]Amanda[/name_f], it’s sweet and actually I think it would be lovely to see a little [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] amongst all of the [name_f]Ava[/name_f]’s, [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]’s, [name_f]Emma[/name_f]’s and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]’s :)) xx Definitely add it to your list!!
It’s definitely a mom name to me, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it. I’d rather have a mom name than be one of four little Olivias on the playground!
I agree with @tallemaja! [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] is dated to me but that doesn’t mean it’s not usable. It’s a lovely name.
I’ve always seen it as a classic name, I think it’s really lovely and romantic, I wouldn’t find it odd to see it on a baby, a teenager, an adult, or an old woman - and it’s got far more substance than [name_f]Emma[/name_f] has, imo.
It doesn’t feel dated at all to me! I actually love the name, and it doesn’t give me “HEather [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]” vibes. It feels modern to me!
I met an 8-year-old [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] a couple or years ago, and the name was a bit surprising. But I don’t really find it dated in the same way as overused mom names, like [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] and [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]. It’s much more classic, and I quite like it. I’d love to see a little [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] today!
Amanda is dated, but I don’t think that it is unusable. It is at #369 in the US, so it is still in active use, just not mega-popular anymore.
[name_f]Amanda[/name_f] may seem a bit dated, but I actually really like it and I think it’s definitely usable!
Amanda is definitely a mum name to me, but it’s still really pretty.
It seems dated to me. I like the very similar Amada, though!
I agree with @kmdharrington
Even though [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] was more popular in the 70s/80s/90s I feel it is a lovely name that could make a comeback in future decades. Maybe not yet …but I think, in fact, that meeting a little [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] nowadays would be refreshing. It reminds me of the name [name_f]Amara[/name_f] also.
I think [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] is slightly dated and does fall into the mum category BUT I do mirror the thoughts of other berries I’d rather use a mum name than my child be one of the four [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]’s in her class!
I had [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] on my list until I met someone with the name whose personal actions toward me made me not want to use it anymore.
I agree. It’s a great name. It is slightly dated, but certainly usable. Besides, I would rather have my child have their own name than be one of many with the same name (in look or sound) in their class.
Amanda is cute but is a little bit more throwback than [name_f]Emma[/name_f] which I would consider timeless. If you want it to sound more modern you could do [name_f]Amara[/name_f] or [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] but honestly I think it’d be sweet and totally wearable to stick with [name_f]Amanda[/name_f].
It is a bit dated, but I love it, it would stand out nowadays, but it’s familiar enough that it wouldn’t be odd!
I actually recently circled back to [name_f]Amanda[/name_f]. I had written it off as dated as well, but it caught me off guard when someone suggested it for a little girl recently and I actually liked the idea! I think [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] is still very much useable, and unlike in the 90s, she’ll have a familiar name, but will likely be the only one in her class.
I grew up with a lot of Amandas, so it does feel slightly dated to me. Not dated like a mom name though. I agree with other posters that it’s definitely still usable! I think [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] would be very sweet on a little one, and I think there are lots of cute nickname options that could help it feels more current too!!
I don’t see it as a mom name per say, but I do find it dated to the late 80’s/90’s. I’ve met and heard of enough of them where the name has become a little boring to me, but it still is pretty, a la [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] and would be pleasantly surprising to meet on a baby or child (I’m in the US)
