My husband and I are Catholic and really like the name [name]Ambrose[/name], as it has such a rich and ancient history in the Church. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Ambrose[/name]? What is your impression of [name]Ambrose[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you think it could exist in today’s modern world? Thanks.
I adore [name]Ambrose[/name]. So handsome and dignified. I love that it’s a boy’s name that contains “rose” and almost “amber” too.
It reminds me of everything that’s sensuous about church- rose windows filtering sunlight, incense, beautiful hymns, the feeling of strength in tenderness…
And I think it’s totally wearable!
I really like [name]Ambrose[/name]! I had never heard of it till last year as it’s the last name of a Nigeria footballer who plays in [name]Scotland[/name], Efe [name]Ambrose[/name]. I think both Efe ([name]Effie[/name]) and [name]Ambrose[/name] are lovely however I’m not sure that it would work on a little boy now-a-days.
[name]Ambrose[/name] along with [name]Anatole[/name] are two old world names that I’ve always found very interesting. However the only references I’m aware of are very 18th century, [name]Ambrose[/name] Bierce who wrote An Occurrence at Owl Creek [name]Bridge[/name] and the main male character in [name]Daphne[/name] du Maurier’s novel My Cousin [name]Rachel[/name]. [name]Even[/name] though I think it is indeed a very handsome name I’m not sure how easy it would be to live with nowadays. A difficult name to nickname, I can only think of [name]Ross[/name] as a viable option, Amby or [name]Rosie[/name] seem less than desirable.
As you can see from my signature I am considering it for my baby boy due this [name]June[/name]. [name]Ambrose[/name] to me is a very 19th/20th century English gentleman-type name. It is a strong name but it is also very soft sounding. It’s very pleasing to the ear (in my opinion anyway). The [name]Saint[/name] connection makes it even more usable in my opinion (although I am not Catholic).
The only thing I know that could have teasing potential is it’s similarity to [name]Amber[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. Plus it’s lack of many masculine nicknames could lead to teasing with the ending -rose. Although a good masculine nickname I have found is [name]Bo[/name].
I think besides the nickname thing, it has a lot of potential!!
I love [name]Ambrose[/name], it’s up there with [name]Angus[/name] for me - I have both down as potential middle names if I can ever get DH to move [name]Theodore[/name] to the first name spot (it’s not looking promising unfortunately).
I do like [name]Ambrose[/name]! I’ve thought about it as a nod to my grandfather whose name was [name]Amos[/name].
[name]Love[/name] what you said!
Thanks everyone!
[name]Ambrose[/name] is excellent and sadly underused. It’s dignified, handsome, and steeped in history. [name]Ambrose[/name] would be so refreshing to hear. Please use it!
[name]Ambrose[/name] is dashing, but perhaps not the most wearable. I’ve always thought [name]Bram[/name] is a good, if slightly counter-intuitive, nn for [name]Ambrose[/name].
I love [name]Ambrose[/name], it’s romantic and stable sounding. I love it so much, definitely use it!
[name]Ambrose[/name] is great! It’s one of my top names! Nicknames: Ames, [name]Abe[/name], [name]Bram[/name], [name]Bo[/name]
I really love [name]Ambrose[/name]. It was my top pick until my husband vetoed it as a first name and then we’re having a girl so it’s no longer an issue. I would be thrilled to meet a little [name]Ambrose[/name]!
I really like it.
That hasn’t always been the case, in fact I disliked it a few years ago, but now it has grown on me.
A fine, distinguished name.
I completely agree.
[name]Bram[/name] as a nickname for [name]Ambrose[/name]? I never thought of that!! I like that idea so much I might use it myself.
I just noticed your other boy ideas. I’m slightly amused since the combo I had settled on was [name]Ambrose[/name] [name]Pasquale[/name].
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name], I think it would work great!
