I like other girl names beginning and ending in vowels ([name]Aurora[/name], [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name], [name]Emmanuelle[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name]) my name is [name]Anna[/name] [name]Olivia[/name]…
Means “food of the gods”
It actually has family ties- My great grandfather was a candy salesman, and that is how he met my great grandmother, who’s favorite candy was “[name]Ambrosia[/name]” they ended up naming their first daughter [name]Ambrosia[/name] (my great Aunt) who goes by “[name]Dixie[/name]”- which clearly has nothing to do with her actual name.
reasons I’m unsure:
It seems a little… well, I don’t know! over the top?
I like [name]Ambrosia[/name], thought it is a little over the top. Because of that, I would pair with it a ‘plain/basic’, somewhat ‘filler’ middle name. Definitely one syllable, though a few two syllable names may work.
[name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name]
[name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Ann[/name]/[name]Anne[/name]
[name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Jade[/name].
Honestly, I don’t like this for a first name, but I could see it as a middle name. I just think the mn spot is a good place for the more “out there” type names. Since it is from your family, I think the mn would be a good way to honor that tie if you truly like this as a name. I could see it potentially gaining a fan base since the more masculine [name]Ambrose[/name] is back in style, but it seems to me naming a child [name]Ambrosia[/name] is similar to naming her [name]Princess[/name], Cookie, or Cheesecake >.<
Ambrosia is very pretty! Since it’s rather elaborate (I don’t mean that in a bad way), I think the mn should be something popular/familiar or something simple. I love the suggestion of Ambrosia Eve.
Ambrosia Emily
Ambrosia Pearl
Ambrosia Isabel
Ambrosia Faye
Ambrosia Kate
Ambrosia Jay
Ambrosia Emily
Ambrosia Lucie
Ambrosia Paige
Ambrosia Catherine / Katherine
Ambrosia Willow
I really like [name]Ambrosia[/name], but I think I prefer it more in the middle myself. I’m not fond of [name]Amy[/name], and I just feel like [name]Ambrosia[/name] would default to [name]Amy[/name] sooner or later. [name]Aria[/name] or [name]Rose[/name], however, would make nice nicknames…
[name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] was the first combo that came to mind.
I like [name]Ambrosia[/name] and I like it in first place and I love your family story. But please don’t dumb it down to a lesser name ala [name]Dixie[/name] or [name]Amy[/name] to make it more palatable. Yes, it’s a lotta name, so if you choose it, you just need to step up and own it!
I think it’s quite pretty and nice to be different. But it is quite frilly/foofy. However since you have a nice family history with the name it would work nicely for you. I’d be tempted to shorten it to a related nn as it’s quite a mouthful to have to say all the time? Maybe Amby/[name]Amber[/name], [name]Rosia[/name], [name]Rosa[/name]
On a personal note it sounds less like a proper name for me than the boys version [name]Ambrose[/name]. But that’s only because I’m in the UK and here it’s a brand of puddings, most famously [name]Rice[/name] Pudding so that’s what it makes me think of, but am sure if you don’t have that kind of connection you’ll never have that problem lol
I like [name]Ambrosia[/name]
Especially with your family history. She also has a lot of nickname potential, [name]Rose[/name]/[name]Rosie[/name], [name]Bo[/name] or Sia would be my picks, but the more down to earth [name]Amy[/name] is ok as well…
People will also know how to pronounce and spell it, I see no problem with it at all. A sweet name ^^
I love it as a first name. Given it’s meaning and history (Greek mythology) I can see why people are relating it to a dessert, but it has more meaning and intelligence behind it, and it won’t be your fault if people aren’t aware of that. Besides that, your family history alone would give enough reason to use it, and as everyone has said, it does sound very pretty. I think [name]Rose[/name]/[name]Rosie[/name] would be a fine nn. Also, thought I’d mention that [name]Amarantha[/name] is a similar sounding Greek name that [name]Amy[/name] would be a great nn for.
I had a close friend who was seriously considering it years ago… I didn’t love it then, found it way too over-the-top, but then I met an absolutely adorable little girl with the name, and I thought it was too cute. I think [name]Rosie[/name]/[name]Rose[/name] would be a sweet nn for it, too. I would stay with a simple MN, like [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Eve[/name], [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Tess[/name], [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Kate[/name], [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Wren[/name]…
I think the name is pretty, but I cannot see it being used in full very often. Which is why it might work better as a middle name. I would recommend starting the nickname yourself before others start [name]Amber[/name] and it catches on.
I really like [name]Ambrosia[/name]. There’s something about the name that draws in my fancy.
If you really want a more “presentable” nickname, try [name]Amber[/name] or [name]Rose[/name]/[name]Rosie[/name]. I think it’s fine on it’s own though.
