We have a daughter called [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and I’m expecting another girl. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I like the name [name_u]Fern[/name_u] for many reasons but were wondering what people thought of it alongside [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is relatively popular where we are from and [name_u]Fern[/name_u], while not unheard of is definitely rarer. To me they both sound strong and feminine but I’m aware [name_u]Fern[/name_u] is a unisex name.
While [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is certainly popular [name_u]Fern[/name_u] is certainly trendy feeling atm. I think they work beautifully together as sisters honestly.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Fern[/name_u] are lovely. I agree that both are strong and feminine names. I wouldn’t expect them to be siblings, but that’s what is great about them together. I say go for it!
Being completely honest, if I was called [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and my sister was called [name_u]Fern[/name_u], I would be endlessly jealous and would wonder why my parents chose something so much more distinct for her
Still, that is probably a very personal thing (and possibly the consequence of being a big name lover ) and might not bother your daughter in the slightest! (this isn’t any hate towards [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] by the way - it’s a sweet and solid choice!)
[name_u]Fern[/name_u] is a gorgeous name - strong, earthy and nature-y - and while there is a difference in popularity, it could work just fine alongside [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] they do both have a strong and feminine feel, just in different ways, but I think if you love [name_u]Fern[/name_u], you could make it work!
I was a little worried about that to be honest. That one would wish their name wasn’t so popular or the other would wish they had a more common name. We have also had the chat about [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] always being able to find her name on a key chain and [name_u]Fern[/name_u] not so much. We do love both names though and my husband and I usually have a hard time agreeing on names. I think the only other girls name we’ve ever agreed on is [name_f]April[/name_f] but that doesn’t fit with this baby’s due date!
It’s one of those where there is no winning and one of those where we often just want the thing we don’t have!!
In this case, if Fern feels right and is the one you agree on, I’d say go for it. It might just be worth mentioning why you chose and love each of your girls names to them too
(as a sidenote, both Aprils I’ve known were born outside of April! Same with the Autumn I knew!!)
I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Fern[/name_u] are darling together ! I think [name_u]Fern[/name_u] is oh so sweet and I love the Charlottes web connection
They work very well together - both feel demure and Victorian.
Go for it! I think they sound great together.
Don’t worry about the keychain thing- these days most things are custom ordered online anyway and you can get whatever name you’d like on them!
Absolutely gorgeous sibling set
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a beautiful name really sweet, feminine and classic. But definitely more popular than [name_u]Fern[/name_u] so firstly to address to issues raised.

keychain issue is a non issue you can get so many personalised items online. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter has a rare name I have tons of personalised items for her.

I don’t think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] will be jealous of [name_u]Fern[/name_u] for her rare name or [name_u]Fern[/name_u] being jealous of her more popular option. I do think that’s more of a name nerd way of thinking. Also I wouldn’t not use a name because of potential sibling rivalry!
In relation to [name_u]Fern[/name_u] she’s gorgeous such a beautiful name really understated, elegant and has lovely nature connotations. Paired with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] I love the overall Victorian elegance truly stunning that feels very fashionable.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps
I know sisters [name_u]Fern[/name_u] & [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], which has quite a similar feel to me! I like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_u]Fern[/name_u] together — [name_u]Fern[/name_u] brings out Amelia’s quirkier notes, and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] makes [name_u]Fern[/name_u] feel a bit brighter.
As for the popularity difference — I think with these two names it’s ok, as [name_u]Fern[/name_u] feels really familiar even if it’s not super common. In general, I wouldn’t do it — my given name is super common and my little brother’s name is basically unheard of, and I was always a bit jealous of him
[name_u]Love[/name_u] both individually. They do seem a little juxtaposed together. But go with what you love.
They’re so lovely together!
We have a brand new little [name_u]Fern[/name_u] and I fretted about it so much because her older siblings (boys) have more popular names. But I’m SO glad we went with it. She’s such a [name_u]Fern[/name_u]! And it fits stylistically with our boys’ names which seems to work really well for us. I just love saying it a million times a day
I love both names, and I think they each bring a nice note of contrast to the other as a sibset! [name_u]Fern[/name_u] will probably be increasingly common, and might not seem so much rarer than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] in ten years.
I watched Charlotte’s [name_m]Web[/name_m] with my youngest this week and had another wave of love for [name_u]Fern[/name_u]!
I’ve only ever actually known of one personally but have always loved it.
I think [name_u]Fern[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] make a lovely sibset. They have a vintage sweet feisty kind of charm to me!
They seem lovely together! [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is darling and classic enough that it pairs well with almost any name in my opinion. [name_u]Fern[/name_u] is a darling choice!
[name_u]Fern[/name_u] is rarer, but it’s a familiar and simple word so I think it fits in well next to a more popular name like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I love this set!
I love them together!
We went for [name_u]Fern[/name_u] 🩷.
I think i would be jealous the other way around because [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is much more feminine… that’s what’s so hard about naming actually children, there’s no way of knowing what their preferences will be! If only we had crystal balls
