Trying to conceive! We already have an Amelia and we’re hoping she’ll become a big sister in the next year or so.
Of course this got me thinking about baby names all over again. Let the big search begin!
One name I have on my mind these days is Molly, but I’d like your expert opinion: do you think it’s too close to Amelia? With Amelia, we considered using the nickname Millie for a while, but it never stuck. Still, do you think we should avoid Molly?
I prefer [name_f]Millie[/name_f] to [name_f]Molly[/name_f], but it is similar to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Lillie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucie[/name_f]?
I agree too. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Molly[/name_f] are great for sisters as long as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] doesn’t go by [name_f]Millie[/name_f]!
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] sound great for sisters. However, if you are concerned that [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] may someday be called [name_f]Millie[/name_f], you could always use the name [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] with the intention of using the nickname [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. That way, both girls will have a number of nickname options, and you won’t have to worry about their names being too similar.
Yes I think [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is too close to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] as [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is such a popular nickname for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] sister [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] went by [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as a kid. [name_f]My[/name_f] brother, [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], was [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] until junior high. It barely occurred to my parents that as adults they’d become … [name_m]Nate[/name_m] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. But spread over 4 kids, nobody notices. Besides, within the family they stayed [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]/[name_m]Nate[/name_m], just like your [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] will probably stay [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] to you. If she isn’t [name_f]Millie[/name_f] yet, she won’t be until she’s old enough to choose it herself. And by that point, it doesn’t matter what her siblings are called.
I wouldn’t let the possibility of [name_f]Millie[/name_f] stop you if [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is your favorite. If you want, start using a different [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] NN occasionally (sounds like she’s an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] though!) to preempt [name_f]Millie[/name_f].
Thank you all for sharing your opinion! I guess though my husband solved the matter for me: no [name_f]Molly[/name_f] for him, he agrees with those who think it’s too close to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], and he’d also prefer a more formal sounding name. The search continues!
I agree with your husband. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a beautiful name, and I feel like [name_f]Molly[/name_f] needs a full name to be equal to the first name of your first daughter.
[name_f]My[/name_f] concern is [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is a very popular slang term for ecstasy. So popular even my psychology teacher used it in class while studying about drugs.
