Amelia and Olivia - do it?

Hey guys, we named our first daughter [name]Amelia[/name] a couple years ago and while I love her name and it suits her perfectly, we picked [name]Amelia[/name] over [name]Olivia[/name] due to the latter’s high popularity. Well, [name]Amelia[/name] is now super popular too and I find myself caring less about that than I used to. So this has me wondering if we could now use [name]Olivia[/name] for her baby sister, or are [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] simply too similar for sisters? Other names we like are [name]Eliane[/name], [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name]. Middle name will be [name]Alexandra[/name], [name]Louise[/name] or both (we all have two middle names in our family… Would baby girl feel left out if she only had one?). Thanks for your help!

By the way, [name]Amelia[/name] goes by her full name (for now anyway), but [name]Olivia[/name] may go by her full name or [name]Livvie[/name], not sure yet.

I knew an [name]Elaina[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] who were sisters and I never thought they sounded too matchy-matchy. I don’t think [name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] are any more similar, so I don’t think it would be a problem, especially if you love the name. If you want to do [name]Olivia[/name] with both [name]Alexandra[/name] and [name]Louise[/name], would you be will to do a variation of [name]Alexandra[/name], i.e. [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Zandra[/name] [name]Louise[/name]? Then you wouldn’t have three L-sounds as the beginning of each name. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, katie! I really hadn’t noticed all those Ls. hmmm… [name]Both[/name] [name]Louise[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name] are after people that are close to us. Of the two, [name]Alexandra[/name] is the one that my husband really wants to use. I added [name]Louise[/name] to avoid the names from running into each other with the two As… [name]OliviA[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]…? Other middle name possibilities (also after loved ones): [name]Belle[/name], [name]Danielle[/name]… [name]Will[/name] have to think about some more.

I know of 2 sisters named [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] nn Livi and Meme. I’ve always thought they went well together

I think they work perfect for sisters. If everyone else has 2 middles then yes I’d keep doing that.

I agree with everything lori johnson said!

I think they’re a bit too similar but they’re not terrible at all. If you still love [name]Olivia[/name], you should use it.

I know of two sisters named [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name]. I definitely think that you can do it.

I personally think they would be fine as a sib-set. I also think that you should give this baby two middle names so that she has the same amount as everyone else.

I think they are perfect sisters!! I also love [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name] with [name]Amelia[/name].

[name]Amelia[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] are lovely as sisters.

Thanks everyone for the replies! [name]Olivia[/name] is still a very strong contender, although we are seriously considering [name]Nolwenn[/name]ṇnow. What to you think of [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Diane[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] or [name]Nolwenn[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]? We’re still not sure about the two middle names thing, but these would be options (the only reason [name]Amelia[/name] has 2 mn is because I wanted to honor 2 loved ones and couldn’t just pick one). Thanks again!

While [name]Amelia[/name] & [name]Olivia[/name] are quite matchy, if you really love [name]Olivia[/name] then I think you should still choose it.
From your other favourites, I think [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Louise[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] is absolutely gorgeous. Goodluck!

These names a both lovely. I have a similar name to that of my sister and I still like that they are similar, even in adulthood. To me these too names are not that similar, especially when you consider nicknames. I’d do it!

Hm, I find [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] much more well-matched than [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Nolwenn[/name]. [name]Nolwenn[/name] strikes me as very distinctly Welsh, where [name]Olivia[/name] is much more widely used and doesn’t feel associated with a particular culture (except, perhaps, generally English).

I think that while yes, [name]Olivia[/name] is very common, it’s no wonder it is: she’s a nice, strong little thing. [name]Olivia[/name] works really well with [name]Amelia[/name] in my opinion, and doesn’t sound overly matchy at all.
[name]Olivia[/name] [name]Louise[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] would make a great combo. I think that if everyone else has two middles, little [name]Livvie[/name] should have two as well, otherwise, yeah, I’d say she’d feel a little left out, I mean, wouldn’t you?

I’m not quite sure how to pronounce the new addition but I do like [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Diane[/name] a lot! It sounds almost royal, but not pretentious!

So do you have a dual middle name, or just your other daughter? If it’s just the other daughter, and it was to pay tribute to two special people, I wouldn’t think it too much of a requirement to give your new addition a double middle.

Regardless of pronunciation, [name]Nolwenn[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] is quite a mouthful, and a lot of "l"s… then, to think there would still be a last name added on, might be a little much.

I think [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name] work fine together. If that’s the name you love… Use it!

[name]Do[/name] it, if you love the names plus they sound beautiful together. I think we over think popularity too much these days.
