Amelia vs. amelie

Which do you prefer and why? Also how do you pronounce [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]? I say it Amuh [name_u]Lee[/name_u] but Idk if that’s right.

Both are beautiful, but I prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].

And I pronounce [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] this way: amuh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u].
Anyways, I prefer the [name_m]French[/name_m] spelling, with the accent: Amélie.

If you add the accent aigu, it becomes [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_f]MAY[/name_f]-lee, fyi.

I think they are two very different names. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is bouncy and vintage and all-american and 4-syllables. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is [name_m]French[/name_m] and soft and a bit mysterious (probably because of the movie by the name) and 3-syllables. Without the accent aigu, I pronounce [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]: [name_m]AH[/name_m]-muh-lee.

I definitely prefer the beautiful [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]! [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] has too many prn and spelling issues. And, I don’t like that it can be confused with [name_f]Emily[/name_f].

I have always loved [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]! [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] (I say [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-mah-lee) feels very french. Unless you live in an area where many people are able to pronounce and spell [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], I’d stick with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Every[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] that I have met has been awesome!

I definitely prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] I always struggle on how to pronounce (A-mee-lee? A-Muh-lee?) Both sound unappealing or like I’m saying [name_f]Emily[/name_f] really weirdly when I say them. Plus [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] starts to blur into [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or ‘A [name_f]Milly[/name_f]’ when said out loud. To me there just isn’t much of a difference. I know loads of people love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], so sorry for being harsh. Amélie I think could be nice, but only if said in an actual [name_m]French[/name_m] accent. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] on the other hand, has great associations for me, and I love the sound. Unfortunately popularity puts me off a bit personally, but I’m picky. :stuck_out_tongue:

Eh, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is very twenties sounding to me. I love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] (ah-muh-lee) since its rare in the states (tired of all the [name_f]Emily[/name_f]'s) and the [name_m]French[/name_m] accent (a-may-lee) is beautiful as well.

I think both are lovely and perfect for a little girl/adult.
Amélie was very popular since the film of the same name but I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] even though it is a vintage style name seems to be more current.

I prefer [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. Then again, [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] was my best friend’s name; I’m really partial to it.

I’ve heard it said several ways. Depending on the day, I say ah-MILL-ee (the pronunciation my friend told me to use. She was born in [name_u]Paris[/name_u] and lived there most of her life, so I always assumed it was right), [name_m]AH[/name_m]-mee-lee (the pronunciation I hear most other people say in [name_m]French[/name_m]), or [name_m]AH[/name_m]-muh-lee (which seems to be the most common American pronunciation?). I really like AM-illy, which I hear is quite often used in [name_f]England[/name_f], but for some reason, I always seem to say it the other ways.

I, too, prefer it with the accent, though–it just feels naked without it!

I prefer [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] {as uh-[name_f]MAY[/name_f]-lee} or, better still, [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] <3

I pronounce [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] the same way you do.

I much prefer it to [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. I always love french sounding endings. I think [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is really fresh and feminine. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] sounds too fussy to me.
