Ammelie or Amelie?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I recently fell in love with the name Aummelie. It’s a new spelling of a classic french name. I like the two m’s. I think the spelling Amelie seems a little cramped and too much like Amelia. Which do you prefer - original spelling or new?
I also like [name_m]Caden[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] for girl’s names.
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Cece[/name_f] (someone posted something similar)
Is [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] too much?
I love [name_f]Ansley[/name_f], [name_u]Sailor[/name_u], and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], all for girls.
I really like the name Kersi.
Thoughts? Opinions? Favorites?

I saw the comments down below. I think I agree about the spelling and pronunciation. Ammelie and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] do seem to make more sense. What do you think, two m’s or one? Also, do you prefer [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] for a girl or a boy?

I think Aummelie seems too made up. I would stick with [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. It’s an absolutely gorgeous name. I also love [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] and [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u]!

I definitely prefer the original spelling. Sorry. I seem to have the opposite opinion of you in that adding superfluous letters to names is a pet peeve of mine so I really dislike Aummelie.

Caden is overused and a bit plain on a boy imo, and it doesn’t get any better on a girl. I adore [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a nickname for a girl though (prefer it only as a nickname period, but it works as a full name). I love [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

Marcella isn’t my style but it’s pretty, and [name_f]Cece[/name_f] works.

Peregrine is absolutely gorgeous. You might like [name_u]Pippin[/name_u] as well. Feels like a middle ground between [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u].

Ansley is not my style but it’s okay. I far prefer it to [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] because it feels softer. [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] is also okay, I like the occupational part. [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is cute on a girl, I’m neutral on it but I prefer it for a girl.

My favorite is [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u].

Do you pronounce them the same?

I read Aummelie like Ormelie. The Au pronounced like in [name_u]Author[/name_u] or [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]?

In general I really don’t like made up names.

Ansley, [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] are all cute! I pronounce [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] like [name_u]March[/name_u]-ella so the [name_f]Cece[/name_f] nickname doesn’t make sense to me but I know some people say [name_f]Marsella[/name_f].

Caden, [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] are all very masculine to me but not unheard of on girls.

I read Aummelie the same as @elleplume and so using it as an alternative spelling to [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] didn’t make a lot of sense (Au doesn’t commonly making the A as in apple sound, at least in my accent). I think the [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] spelling is a lot more intuitive in a wider number of regional accents.

I really dislike Aummelie for multiple reasons. Firstly, it doesn’t represent the pronunciation of [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] for me at all (as others have said). Secondly, I’m a purist - I really dislike respellings of names, and especially so when there are superfluous letters. Aummelie just looks long and confusing and, as I said before, I don’t say it the same way - with this spelling I say ‘or-meh-lee‘ (I’m Australian, so the ‘r’ isn’t emphasised).

I probably should have mentioned that I have a daughter named [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] so my opinion isn’t unbiased!

I’m not a fan of [name_f]Ansley[/name_f], [name_u]Sailor[/name_u], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] or [name_m]Caden[/name_m] but [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] is a lovely name and whilst I like Finn for a boy, I can sort of see the appeal of it for a girl.

And whilst I’m not a massive fan of [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u], I do find [name_u]Pippin[/name_u] really sweet as a nickname for it (or on its own)! I do think [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] would make a fantastic middle name, though.

I definitely prefer [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. The Aumm- part looks a bit jarring to me. [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cece[/name_f] is sweet, and I like [name_u]Finley[/name_u] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u] for a girl. [name_f]Ansley[/name_f], [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] are lovely!

Peregrine is one I’ve never really gotten the appeal of, sorry!

I much prefer [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], all of those letters in the other spelling seem unnecessary to me.
Plus I’m more likely to say Ohm-uh-[name_u]Lee[/name_u] rather than [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-me-[name_u]Lee[/name_u] with this new spelling.

Finn is interesting for a girl, I like it. [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] is unusual but has a soft pleasing sound, I’m a fan of this one too.

Aummelie looks quite made up - like a smush of [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. I would probably stick to the original, though the Au- start is sweet.
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] is alright on a girl, but I don’t like [name_m]Caden[/name_m] on anyone (you could use [name_u]Cadence[/name_u], though).
I also think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] would make for a lovely nickname.
I’m not big on [name_f]Marcella[/name_f], but I love [name_f]Marceline[/name_f].
[name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] is not too much, and I adore it.
[name_f]Ansley[/name_f], [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] aren’t to my taste, but I don’t mind [name_u]Sailor[/name_u].

I have to agree with previous posters. I think Aummelie seems too made up, and doesn’t reflect the pronunciation of [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].

I think that [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] by itself is beautiful, and doesn’t look too cramped at all.

I’m a sucker for masculine girls names, so I think [name_m]Caden[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] are stunning for a girl. [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] and [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] are also beautiful. [name_f]Perri[/name_f] is like my all time favourite girls nickname.

I think they would be pronounced completely differently so they’re totally separate names to me. Aummelie would be pronounced OR-mel-ee whereas [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is pronounced A-mel-ee. I definitely prefer the class [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], so beautiful.

I think I would like Ammelie slightly more than Aummelie, the U makes it look quite odd (and doesn’t really lend itself to a clear pronunciation).

From your other names I like [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Cece[/name_f]’ and [name_f]Ansley[/name_f] best.

I’m not a big fan of Aummelie, sorry. I’ve always been a fan of [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], but I love pp suggestions of Ammelie. What about Ammeline?

Not a fan of [name_m]Caden[/name_m] and [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] for a girl (love [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] nn [name_u]Perry[/name_u] for boys), but [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is lovely. I also [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] for girls. I’ve been really into trade names for girls these days.

Thanks for your comments! This is really helpful!

I dislike it and definitely wouldn’t pronounce it the same as [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] (prefer 1 m, 2 looks like a typo)

Personally, I prefer [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] for a boy (makes me think of [name_m]Tom[/name_m] [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]), as well as [name_m]Caden[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

Peregrine is also masculine to me, and a fusty old man name at that too.

Ansley and [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] aren’t my style, but they do sound feminine. I like [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and Aily as nicknames.

Marcella nn [name_f]Cece[/name_f] is sweet

Definitely [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. It’s so light and lovely!

Aummelie and Ammelie look misspelt to me, because it’s just not a name I’ve seen gain multiple mainstream spellings (unlike [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Emilie[/name_f], [name_f]Emely[/name_f], [name_f]Emmalee[/name_f], etc.)

I’m also seeing Amm- and my mind is jumping to ammo, ammunition, ammonia, etc. I’m sure there are some nice words that start with Amm- too, but that’s just where my mind went.
