I’m considering the word-name Amora as my baby’s first name and would like to know your opinions on it.
Amora is the word for the blackberry fruit and it has been used as a female name before, although it’s far from being common.
Amora is pronounced like [name_f]Maura[/name_f], but with an A in the beginning. It more or less rhymes with another front-runner of mine, [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
Please share with me your thoughts and how you imagine a little girl called Amora would be like.
In my language [name_f]Maura[/name_f] is pronounced differently, I only used it to more or less describe the pronunciation of Amora. I forgot to say that the O in Amora is like in the words pot, shop and off (American English).
First off, is Portuguese your native tongue? I feel so intrusive, haha, but I’m attempting to learn Portuguese right now (I may have the option to go to [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] next summer!), and I just got irrationally giddy over that! (Also, Caetano and [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] are stunning!)
I like some of your other options better with Caetano and [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]–particularly [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], and [name_f]Livia[/name_f] (sorry, I can’t do accents on my computer!)–but Amora is certainly intriguing. I like that it reminds me of the word for “love” in so many languages, and the fact that it actually means “blackberry” is lovely! It’s like a lingual misdirect, which I sort of love, and I think fruit names are really cool (I also like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f], and [name_f]Plum[/name_f]/[name_f]Prune[/name_f]!). I think Amora is really lovely, although I don’t like it quite so much as [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (which is a huge favorite of mine right now!).
You sound like such a sweetheart! My language is in fact Portuguese. If you ever want some help learning, suggestions of filmes, songs, books etc, just message me. I’m a really good teacher and would love helping you! So nice to meet someone interested in learning my language!
Amora is pretty, but I actually prefer all of the other names in your signature. Not sure if this matters, but in the US, I think there would be a hesitation as to whether to pronounce it AM-u-ruh (not so beautiful) or am-OR-a, like you want. Your other names are gorgeous.
