However, I’m worried that it’s not ready for a comeback (and still won’t be in 5-10 years). Not being an American (or English/Australian etc.), I don’t know any Amys firsthand, but I do know that it was hugely popular in the 70s, which is reflected by the various famous Amys today.
I just really like the sound.
I’ve been trying to think of other names that sound similar, such as [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], Aidy, but don’t like them quite as much.
[name_f]Amy[/name_f] is undoubtedly adorable. Personally, I like to stay far away from popular names, but I can admit that some are beautiful.
Have you considered Aimée? (Ay-may).
You might also like [name_f]Amity[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Amy[/name_f] is a beautiful name. I love the sound and I love the meaning. If you’re worried about it, you could try [name_f]Amabel[/name_f] which has a similar meaning and nickname her [name_f]Amy[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Amy[/name_f], and it is a cute name, but I must admit I mostly like it because of associations. But I definitely don’t think it’s the most boring name though, and it is a sweet name with a lovely meaning. Plus if it isn’t perceived as dated where you live I don’t think it matters. I’m awful at suggestions, but I second [name_f]Amity[/name_f], and maybe you’d like [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f]/[name_f]Fae[/name_f], or [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]/[name_f]Pippi[/name_f].
I’m in Aus and also think [name_f]Amy[/name_f] feels a little like a ‘mum’ name. Although I have a step sister named [name_f]Amie[/name_f] (13) and I find this to be a fresher spelling.
I don’t really have anything negative to say about [name_f]Amy[/name_f], it just doesn’t excite me.
I much prefer the [name_f]Aimee[/name_f] spelling. Its strange, because at the end of the day they sound exactly the same. But I’m much more drawn to [name_f]Aimee[/name_f] than I am [name_f]Amy[/name_f].
I think its perfectly fit for a little one these days!
I love the name [name_f]Amy[/name_f], though I grew up with a few in the 80s. I also like the spelling [name_f]Aimee[/name_f], but at the same time it looks more made up to me (even if it’s not). I have [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] on my list of names I like. I will never get to use it, since my husband does not like either name…
I think it’s cute and sweet. Now I associate the name with The Big Bang [name_m]Theory[/name_m] and since [name_f]Amy[/name_f] is my favorite character I like the name even better.
It’s a nice enough name, but I can’t shake the fact that when I was growing up, every [name_f]Amy[/name_f] in my school was known as [name_f]Amy[/name_f].P or [name_f]Amy[/name_f].S etc.
Thank you so much guys! Seems like even though some of you grew up with a little too many Amys to get excited by the name, the majority still think it’s lovely I’m not having a baby in the near future, so I guess time works for me with this name. I’m thinking it will become less dated as time passes.
Thanks for the suggestions, I love [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], and [name_f]Maya[/name_f].
