Amy & Emily or Amy & Millie

We have both always love [name_f]Emily[/name_f] & [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and as our daughter is named [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] as a given name Is out. I thought we’d carry it on with our second daughter being named after my great grandmother. - my boyfriends great grandmothers his nephew is named after.

Does [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] sound ok together. Or [name_f]Amy[/name_f] & [name_f]Millie[/name_f] sound better. - Which MN sounds better too.

[name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] (NN [name_f]LuLu[/name_f] - Loo Loo) & [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]. - NN [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] & [name_f]Millie[/name_f]-[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]. - [name_f]Amy[/name_f] other MN suggestions welcome. - surname Kitcher.

P.S. I’m English.

I like [name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] & [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] or [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is very common. I love [name_f]Millie[/name_f], it is adorable, yet classic… and has an old-world feel.

[name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f] are two very commonly used nicknames for the same name, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. And [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] are still very close. My opinion is that once you picked [name_f]Amy[/name_f], you ruled out using [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. It would be like having sisters named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Maria[/name_f]. Same name.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] my honest opinion. I understand your dilemma though, having an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] myself, I couldn’t agree more that those are gorgeous names. But you need to branch out and keep looking, there are thousands of names out there and I’m sure you’ll find a gorgeous one that will sound great with your [name_f]Amy[/name_f].

Have you considered:
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariana[/name_f]
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Tillie[/name_f]

I agree with millies_mom , but if you do pick one, I’d go with [name_f]Emily[/name_f].
Have you consider:
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Emalea[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is perfection. I like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] more as a given name, but [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is always a cute nickname, and if she wants, she can go by her full name or a middle name later in life.

I agree with millies_mom. The names are too close…all of them. If you have an [name_f]Amy[/name_f] I’d look for a name that wasn’t the same or sounding so much like [name_f]Amy[/name_f]. [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Ann[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] are all really beautiful choices! [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ( [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f]), [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] (Aven and [name_f]Amy[/name_f]), [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ([name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f]), [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] ( [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f].)

[name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is ideal; these two classic names couldn’t be more compatible.

[name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f], nn [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]-[name_f]Frances[/name_f], nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f]-[name_f]Margaret[/name_f], nn [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]

karacavazos - [name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] & [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - Thank you this one is my fave.

lkane - Thank You.

millies_mom - "But you need to branch out and keep looking, there are thousands of names out there and I’m sure you’ll find a gorgeous one that will sound great with your [name_f]Amy[/name_f]. " - I find that offensive, You can not tell me what to do I am my own person and I find that very rude I know it’s your opinion but you do not tell someone what to do ‘You need to branch out and keep looking’ - I asked for opinions on the names not to get belittled and talked to like I’m a child.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Emily[/name_f] are both my great grandmothers names. my daughter is named after [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] who’ NN was [name_f]Amy[/name_f] (in her early years her NN was [name_f]Millie[/name_f] but she didnt like it when she got older). [name_f]Emily[/name_f] her NN was [name_f]Emi[/name_f] when she was younger but changed it to [name_f]Millie[/name_f] when she got older. - So [name_f]Amy[/name_f] & [name_f]Millie[/name_f] mean something to Me.

Have you considered:
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Ariana[/name_f]/[name_f]Milena[/name_f]/[name_f]Lena[/name_f] - These all seem weird to me as they seen a bit too out there for our taste.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - I HATE this name with a passion.
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] - I’m unsure. - I do like [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f] though.
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Nell[/name_f] - Too Old lady ish.
[name_f]Tillie[/name_f] - I cant use as a cousin has a [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] NN [name_f]Tilly[/name_f].

waverly1234 -
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Emalea[/name_f] - is basically [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but spelt differently, so they’d probably be too close. - I do like [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f] though.
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] - I love this one but my boyfriendid unsure.

axps123 - I think [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is perfection. I like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] more as a given name, but [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is always a cute nickname, and if she wants, she can go by her full name or a middle name later in life. - Thank you. I love this name also. I have alaways said she can do by her full name or a middle name later in life if she doesnt like her name.

goodkarmavt - [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_u]Seren[/name_u], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Bianca[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]/[name_f]Bethan[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] (He likes this spelling because he’s only ever seen it spelt this way) - These are the other names on our FN list just unsure on MN’s for them. - [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ([name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f]), [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] (Aven and [name_f]Amy[/name_f]), [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ([name_f]Freya[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f]), [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] ([name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f]) - I like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] best - Any other names to go between [name_f]Freya[/name_f] & [name_f]Rose[/name_f] see above why. - [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] I’m unsure of as I have a friend called [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosie[/name_f] I cant use as FN as my cousins girlfriend is called [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. - [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] is pretty but I’m usnure as it doesnt feel like a name that will grow with the child.
Proud mama to [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] and [name_f]Sena[/name_f] [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

apollonia - [name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f], nn [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]-[name_f]Frances[/name_f], nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f]-[name_f]Margaret[/name_f], nn [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] - I love your name options it’s just a shame [name_f]Frances[/name_f] & [name_f]Maisey[/name_f] are in the family already. - I’m unsure how 2 hyphenated names will look.

"I thought we’d carry it on with our second daughter being named after my great grandmother. - my boyfriends great grandmothers his nephew is named after. "

Sorry, I guess I missed the context because the sentence above didn’t make any sense. I didn’t mean to upset you, but I did give you my honest opinion, and I’m apparently not the only one to think that your names are too close. And I still think so, but hey, you certainly don’t have to listen to me or anyone else here.

Anyway, I shall rephrase: I sincerely, and respectfully, believe that you should keep looking for a first name for your second daughter. However, in light of the context that I now better understand, I would encourage you to use either [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a middle name instead. This way, you could still honour your great grandmother while also giving your new daughter a name that will be distinctly her own.

Cheers!

Exactly this. Whilst they are all beautiful names, I feel like you would run into a plethora of issues having two daughters with forms of the same name.

I think we need to listen to what @kellymarie is saying: [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f]/[name_f]Millie[/name_f] are all family names, and they mean a lot to her. She already has a daughter named [name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f], after her great grandmother. I think [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] make a wonderful sibset, as [name_f]Emily[/name_f] can go by [name_f]Millie[/name_f] if she wants. I love the combination [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

[name_m]How[/name_m] hard is it that bit to understand - I want my daughters to be named after my great grandmothers [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Emily[/name_f] as my boyfriends nephew is named after my boyfriends great grandmothers [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] & [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] ([name_m]Ethan[/name_m] Nobel) - As he was a miracle child so he got both grandparents names in 1.

I’m sorry for wanting my children to be named after family and have a name that means something and not just a name that we found that we liked so we used that. - Names like [name_u]Jordan[/name_u], [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (Boys & girls being called), [name_f]Alyvia[/name_f], [name_f]Alizabeth[/name_f], Yessica (Names people have stupidly changed letters for) or Ja’nieece Leeigh, Ja’Niyla [name_f]Maree[/name_f] ones people have made up etc.

Thank You kyemsma - Someone who agrees with me :). - [name_f]Amy[/name_f] goes by [name_f]LuLu[/name_f] or [name_m]Louie[/name_m] 99.5% of the time the other 0.5% of the time it’s [name_f]Amy, Amy[/name_f]-[name_u]Lou[/name_u] or [name_f]Amy-Louise[/name_f] (when she’s naughty). - That was what I was thinking [name_f]Emily[/name_f] being called [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. - [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] was my grandmothers favourite flower and [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is a variation of my grandad’s name [name_m]Fred[/name_m].

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely, I don’t think [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] are too similar at all - both are classics and nn [name_f]LuLu[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f] are definitely not too close as nicknames.

If you’re still considering other options (leaving out [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and her variations, and those previously mentioned):

Other [name_f]Em[/name_f]- names - [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Emerald[/name_f]

Other names to get [name_f]Millie[/name_f] - [name_f]Camille[/name_f]/[name_f]Camilla[/name_f], [name_f]Romilly[/name_f], [name_f]Milena[/name_f]

I dont really like variations of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Emelea[/name_f] etc. - Although I do like [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f].

I dont get what the big deal is I know there close but said differently Aim-Mee & [name_f]Em[/name_f]-I-[name_u]Lee[/name_u].

I do love [name_f]Emerald[/name_f] but I’m unsure how it will be on a older women. - [name_f]Emma[/name_f] I like but I know too many.
I like [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] & [name_f]Milena[/name_f] but he doesn’t. - [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]/[name_f]Camille[/name_f] cant be used due to the royal family.

I understand 100% that you want to honor your grandmother! My daughter and younger son have first and middle honoring names. You didn’t even read what I said, did you? I never said go and pick a random name for the first name at all. Like your boyfriends nephew, [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] Nobel, he was using both names to honor people. So, what if you used the first name to honor someone else?

I’m not saying you have to, I’m making a suggestion.
Also, I am not trying to be rude, but when posting on a forum for opinions of names, you have to be willing to take comments that don’t just say fluff about how much they love your choices. I was just giving my opinion, and being honest. There’s no fault in that.

You asked for opinions here:

That said, I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], and [name_f]Millie[/name_f] are all nice choices, but too similar to each other for siblings for my taste.

Excuse me I have been on here longer than you and I am a member of many other forums and while I know not everyone will love the names I like including my own boyfriend. - I was not even talking to you in my comment I was talking to millies_mom. - And how can I even reply to your comment when I have no idea what it even means ‘plethora of issues having two daughters with forms of the same name’.

He only has both names because he was going to be the only child (and he is 10 years older than my daughter) and not because he was going to be named after a family member and then a brother/sister was too. - This is the thing we don’t agree on I wanted [name_f]Harriett[/name_f] after my grandmother which he doesnt like, [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] & [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] he says are too old, [name_f]Edna[/name_f] (his grandmother), I thought of [name_u]Eden[/name_u] which he liked but has now changed his mind.

We like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f], [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]/[name_f]Bethan[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. - Another problem I have is I don’t like repeating initals e.g. A.A.K or A.K.K. etc. - doesnt have to be 2 MN’s but I love [name_f]Lavender[/name_f].

Boys names are pretty much set in stone [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] & … [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] - Possibly FN [name_m]Arran[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] are our top choices.

I used to babysit twins [name_f]Emily[/name_f] & [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] ([name_f]Amy[/name_f] & [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]). I think they’re sweet together, if a bit matchy. I despise [name_f]Millicent[/name_f]/[name_f]Millie[/name_f]…sounds mealy and icky to me.

I just have to see as his fave is [name_f]Millie[/name_f].

would [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f] be ok.

I think [name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] ([name_f]Lulu[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f]) would make an adorable, well-matched, meaningful pair! [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is a beautiful combination, definitely my favorite  Good luck to you!
