I am seriously considering [name_f]Jane[/name_f] for a first name (it’s right up there with [name_u]June[/name_u] at the top of my list).
It’s my middle name and, as a feminine version of [name_m]John[/name_m], it also honours my boyfriend (middle name [name_m]John[/name_m]) and his dearly departed father (first name [name_m]John[/name_m]).
Personally, I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is anything but plain, but I do think it needs a middle name with a bit of ‘edge’ to balance the short, sweetness of [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
Something along the lines of…
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Bravery[/name_m] (fave! my first name is a virtue name & I love the symmetry of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Bravery[/name_m])
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] Lionheart
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] Nightingale
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] Wildflower
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Midnight[/name_m]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Nirvana[/name_f]
So berries, do you have any other suggestions for similar middle names that would take [name_f]Jane[/name_f] from “plain” to just plain cool?
PS: Some other middles I like that aren’t as edgy are [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Clarity[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f].
I think of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as fresh for a first name, but it’s not my style as a middle. I’m thinking from a few different wave lengths in terms of suggestions here, maybe some of these will fit your style.
@elza0911 - thank for your suggestions. It’s not my style as a middle either (although I personally love it in my case with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]) but I too think it’s fresh as a first. It’s not even in the top 1000 here in the UK.
I’m not a fan of unisex names so [name_u]Ellison[/name_u], [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] are out, and our surname starts with W so [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] and [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] are out too.
My favorite is [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m] hands down - unexpected and nods to both nature and literary references.
I like these very much too, but I would consider them feminine & frilly rather than edgy & cool:
Thanks, me too. Unfortunately I couldn’t use it as [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Wildflower [name_m]Weston[/name_m] is too alliterative for my liking and also a little too ‘wild west’!
I’m not sure any of your suggestions are 100% for me, but Thornwood got me thinking and I might add [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] to the list. It’s the name of the street I grew up on so it has special meaning to me.
Of all the combos you listed, I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] best. I think it has the same sound and feeling as [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Bravery[/name_m], but a bit more wearable.
@tamparays8 - thanks! I like [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] but they’d be on my ‘long & feminine’ list for middle names for [name_f]Jane[/name_f] rather than ‘edgy & cool’.
I do, however, love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m].
My grandmother’s name was [name_f]Rose[/name_f] so it’s actually a subtle way to honour her without the traditional [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] etc. Thanks!
@c@29 - I already have [name_f]Clarity[/name_f] on my list, and had considered Valour, so great minds think alike!
The problem with Valour is that it sounds like my family surname but pronounced with a V so it would sound like I’ve tried to honour my family name in a really strange way. I don’t know, but that puts me off it a bit.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] Vespertine though - great suggestion!
I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Bravery[/name_m] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f] are so amazing! I think I slightly prefer [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Reverie[/name_f], but both are wonderful. I love the idea of an unexpected middle name. I think no matter what you choose the name will be one of the coolest around
