Hubs and I are expecting baby girl #5 (!!) and I have always loved the name [name_f]Ana[/name_f]/Anna but only pronounced with a soft A like [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] in Frozen. I’d prefer to spell it with one n so that it will be easier to pronounce. However, neither of us has Latin or Eastern European/Russian roots, so is spelling with one N too strange? Also, our last name ends in S…will she get made fun of (like, anus jokes or whatever?)
If that’s the pronunciation you’re going for, [name_f]Ana[/name_f] is definitely preferable. It’s a quick fix, too. It’s not hard to say, “[name_f]Ana[/name_f] with one N.” I don’t think it’s weird as it’s an established spelling.
Kids will make fun of just about anything. [name_m]Even[/name_m] the common [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] can be made into lizard breath.
Hmm… the one [name_f]Ana[/name_f] I know pronounced it ann-uh, not ah-na, so I’m not sure whether that would make a difference. I don’t think the teasing with [name_f]Ana[/name_f] will be a problem!
For the pronunciation you want, I’d personally go [name_f]Ana[/name_f], but I do know an [name_f]Anna[/name_f] with the same pronunciation as the girl from Frozen. Either works and is lovely
I prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f], it looks more complete Although [name_f]Ana[/name_f] might be easier for the pronunciation you want. I pronounce both like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] from Frozen.
I like the [name_f]Anna[/name_f] spelling better. It feels more complete to me as a stand-alone, whereas [name_f]Ana[/name_f] feels like a nickname for [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f].
I will say though I’ve seen both spellings pronounced both ways. I personally would go with the spelling you like the most and plan to spell/pronounce it if people ask. I know it seems like a lot to need to spell/pronounce your name regularly, but as a [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], I’ve gotten used to saying “with a C.” Honestly I don’t mind it. I love my name and I’d rather correct people than spell it any differently! I say go with what you love most. Best of luck
I’ve known both Annas and [name_m]Anas[/name_m] who’ve all pronoucned it [name_f]Ann[/name_f]-uh so i don’t think either spelling will make the pronunciation obvious. I’d go with the one you like best as it’s an easy correction to make
Ana makes more sense for the pronunciation you prefer. [name_m]Prior[/name_m] to Frozen I had never heard [name_f]Anna[/name_f] pronounced with the soft A, as you call it, and haven’t seen anyone pronounce it that way since.
But [name_f]Ana[/name_f] I’ve only seen pronounced with the soft A, so that I like
Anna from Frozen is so well known that I think saying “like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] from Frozen” is really easy instead of saying “like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] from Frozen but with one n”.
