[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
Now feeling more confused , anyone have any strong likes ,or dislikes
from my list
Well, if you want a name day then you’ll have to choose a saint’s name. [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of saints have names derived from the ancient pantheon but ones like [name_f]Nephele[/name_f] or Erato will defintiely be out. I think [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] is the only one on your list which made it into the canon.
I’m Orthodox too and like this site for a quick synopsis of female saints’ names:
http://www.antiochian.org/content/orthodox-women-saints
Some ‘ancient’ standouts:
[name_f]Apollonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aquilina[/name_f]
Chryse
Euphrosyne (I think this is very old-fashioned in Greece though)
Rhais
Zenais / [name_f]Zenaida[/name_f]
[name_f]Pelagia[/name_f]
Menodora
Myrope
Rhipsime
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
Actually ,Nefeli and Erato both have name days the only one which doesn’t from my list which I can’t dump because I love is Electra
and Ariel. It is also just as important the name being in greek mythology as having a name day,I’m trying for both
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f] , meaning : beautiful voice.
Calliope is a mythological name.
It’s pronounced cah-lah-yo-pee
Nickname: Callie
My favourite is [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]. She’s the Greek primordial goddess of [name_f]Earth[/name_f]. I also really like [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] and [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]? It means radiant, shining one.
I love [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
Some more are:
Arsinoë
[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zenaida[/name_f]
Zénaïde
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
Bérénice
Tryphaena
[name_f]Eurydice[/name_f]
[name_f]Demetria[/name_f]
[name_f]Calista[/name_f]/[name_f]Callisto[/name_f]
[name_f]Kalypso[/name_f]/[name_u]Calypso[/name_u]
Antiope
[name_f]Selene[/name_f]
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Roxane[/name_f]
Lysandra
Kleopatra/Cleoptra
[name_f]Kassandra[/name_f]/[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Kassiopeia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Irene[/name_f]
[name_f]Helene[/name_f]
[name_f]Euphemia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
I also like [name_f]Gaia[/name_f],but in greece it isn’t used ,probably because they say it like yeaah ,which also sounds like hello in greek so can’t use it
I love [name_f]Avra[/name_f] and Nefeli (prefer it spelled [name_f]Nephele[/name_f])
Thanks for all the suggestions I am still stuck to the same I have ,and have now added more!!! so if any one has a love …or hate and why it would help to see another point of view ,I am really stuck and need to narrow it down !!
This is my final list !?!?
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] or [name_f]Ariana[/name_f]- means most holy or pure
Erato -pronounced /air ato/means the lovely ,or beloved ,and the goddess music ,song and dance
[name_f]Electra[/name_f] -means bright shining,or [name_f]Amber[/name_f] or brilliant one
[name_u]Dione[/name_u]- pronounced/ [name_f]Dee[/name_f] oh nee /means divine goddess
Nefeli- means cloud goddess or cloudy
[name_f]Danae[/name_f]- pronounced da nah eye means god is my judge
[name_f]Avra[/name_f] -means breeze and the goddess of breezes and cool air
Areti-means virtue and also a mythylogical figure
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u],or [name_f]Ariela[/name_f]-means lion of God
[name_f]Clio[/name_f],or [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]-means glory
Areti is so old fashioned in Greece , so unless it has meaning to you , I wouldn’t recommended it .
My favorite are [name_f]Electra[/name_f] , Nefeli ( although I prefer the [name_f]Nephele[/name_f] spelling ) , & [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] . Stunning & strong names .
Good luck
