Andrew

If we have a little boy we are considering the name [name]Andrew[/name]. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on it!
Here are mine, but I’m having a hard time nailing down how I really feel about it.

PROS:
My husband’s 5th great grandfather who was the first to come to [name]America[/name] was named [name]Andrew[/name].
It is my husband’s middle name.
I love traditional, classic, strong male names.
I like the nick name [name]Drew[/name].
It sounds great with our last name.

CONS:
I worry that it’s too common, like “[name]John[/name]” or something.
I worry that it’s too plain/boring.

Thanks for the advice!

Use it. [name]Andrew[/name] is a great name choice. Especially since it has such family significance to you.
Plus, [name]Drew[/name] is a great nickname! [name]Andy[/name] would be the more common name choice.
I do know many Andrews…but none that go by [name]Andrew[/name], or [name]Drew[/name]…most of them use an initial name…AJ, AT, AC, ect…
However, [name]Anders[/name], [name]Evander[/name], [name]Andre[/name], [name]Drew[/name], Andrik, [name]Ander[/name], [name]Andy[/name], Andrey, [name]Anderson[/name], [name]Antero[/name], Druex, [name]Adem[/name], Mandrew, and Ondre, and [name]Tandie[/name] are some name variations you may prefer?

I think [name]Andrew[/name] is a fine name but it evokes a feeling of the 1990’s to me as opposed to a classic feel.

It’s a good, strong classic name. I don’t think it is too common. I’ve only known 2. It’s definitely not as common as [name]John[/name], [name]Henry[/name], or [name]James[/name], at least where I’m from.

I agree with you that [name]Andrew[/name] is a classic, strong name. While it is incredibly popular (I’ve known multiple Andrews at every stage of my life), I don’t think that most people would call it boring. Since it obviously has significance for you I wouldn’t get rid of it altogether, but if you’re worried about the popularity factor, I would suggest either moving it to a middle spot and choosing a less popular name for a first, or using a less common nickname with it.

I love this name! It is far from boring! I think it is handsome, strong and full of character.

Beautiful choice!

I’m surprised to hear that it has a 90’s vibe! I think of it being a major classic since it’s obviously an old, old name.

Thanks for the input ladies. I don’t really like any of the variations of [name]Andrew[/name] as much as I like [name]Andrew[/name]. I just have to decide if I want to use such a common name. Our last name is extremely uncommon (there are literally no other people in the US with our last name, other than our immediate family!) so he would still be the only one with his full name living in the US.
