[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering what people’s opinions are on the name [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]?
I currently really like the nn [name_f]Eda[/name_f], but can anyone suggest any other nicknames?
And lastly, do you think it’s compatible with the names in my sig?
I think it fits with the names in your sig. I think it’s “My [name_f]Sister[/name_f]'s Keeper” (tear-jerker of a book) that has an [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. Personally I’d consider it a bit too far over the GP line to use as a first name, though I’d use it as a middle name for sure. @bellerose listed a few possible nicknames already and I’m debating whether you might be able to get away with [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] as well.
I would possibly call it a GP name but I guess it depends where you’re from. Here it would get some strange looks.
As for nicknames, here are some off the top of my head:
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_f]Meda[/name_f]
[name_u]Romy[/name_u]
[name_u]Roma[/name_u]
[name_f]Eda[/name_f]
[name_f]Mimi[/name_f]
I really like [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], and I have it on my list, so I’m probably biased in saying that I think it’s completely usable. It’s such a strong, unusual, and just super cool name in general. I absolutely love the fact it’s the name of a galaxy too, because I love astronomy.
I quite like [name_f]Eda[/name_f] for [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]. Or maybe [name_f]Edie[/name_f]. Others I can think of are: [name_u]Romy[/name_u], [name_f]Andi[/name_f], [name_f]Meda[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. Can’t think of anymore.
Definitely think [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] fits really well with the other names in your sig. It has the same length, slightly out there, exotic feel to it as the names on your sig, particularly [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], Amalthea, [name_m]Evander[/name_m], [name_m]Romulus[/name_m], and [name_m]Artemas[/name_m].
I would say it’s a gp, but some people are pretty daring, and if you’re one of them, then go for it! Tbh the names in your signature are also ones I would classify as gp, so I’m obviously a bit more on the safe side to begin with.
Also I was going to list nicknames but all of the ones I could think of have already been said, so…
I really like the name [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]. One of my nieces goes to school with an [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]. I asked her if the kids make fun of her name and she said not as far as she knows. But most of the ones she hangs out with thinks its cool. If I remember correctly, they mostly call her [name_u]Andy[/name_u].
It totally depends on where you live. If you live somewhere like I do where every other baby is [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], people will look at you like you’re a space alien if you name your daughter [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]. But if you live in an urban area or somewhere with adventurous naming trends, it’s totally usable.
Also one of my guilty pleasure names! I can’t use it though as a family member lives on a street called [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f].
I think it works very well with the names in your signature, and there are so many nicknames for [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] it wouldn’t be hard to wear it difficult to grow into.
I love very unusual names, amd [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] topped my list. It was one of 3 top names we decided between for our daughter, so I would definitely say it is usable!
As for nn, I think the other comments covered that pretty well
Hmm I’m torn. Personally I don’t really like how this name looks and sounds, but I absolutely [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the astronomical, the mythology and the My [name_f]Sister[/name_f]'s Keeper connections. One of the main character is an [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Anna[/name_f], and I fell for this name when her father said to her pregnant mother “Like the princess. In the sky, she’s between her mother and her father.” Err…
Anyway, back to your question. I think it’s kinda cool. It’s just a name I like more on other people’s child than on my own. I’d be thrilled to meet an [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f].
I’m Greek so hearing names like [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] and [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is not unheard of for me. I think it is usable, but daring. I’d make sure to have a nn that you like because [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] is a bit long and just in case your daughter doesn’t like her name.
