So I recently rediscovered the name [name_f]Angela[/name_f] and I like it quite a lot now. It also has some sentimental and family value to me. When my father was born, he should have inherited the name Arcangelo ([name_m]Arch[/name_m]-[name_u]Angel[/name_u]; sounds cool to both me and my dad) from his grandfather, but his father opted to use [name_m]Ronald[/name_m] instead. Now when I was born, my dad wanted to use [name_f]Gia[/name_f] as at least a nickname if not a full name, and considered Giangela before scrapping the idea, and going with [name_f]Gia[/name_f] (plus hyphenating it to include my mother’s name). I kind of think that when I get older and have my own children, [name_f]Angela[/name_f] would be a nice name because it would reflect two generations of the family that originally would have had it in their name but were denied it in the end. What do you think?
It does sound a bit dated to the 70’s/80’s in my mind, but I wouldn’t think it weird if I met a little [name_f]Angela[/name_f] today. It’s actually ranked 220 in the US, which surprised me, so clearly it’s still decently popular!
It has personal meaning for you (I think Arcangelo is an awesome name too!), and it’s a pretty name. I say if you love it, go for it!
[name_f]Angela[/name_f] is nice. [name_u]Angie[/name_u] ruins it for me.
[name_f]Angela[/name_f] is very pretty, absolutely nothing wrong with using it. I’m also going to add that wow, Arcangelo and Giangela are freaking awesome names! Very cool family names.
What cool family names! I think [name_f]Angela[/name_f] is cute, even if it is a bit dated. I think it would be a great name to honor your family with. Recently, I’ve been falling for the “angel” girl names, like [name_f]Angelica[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], and my favorite, [name_f]Angeline[/name_f].
I think it is a great choice! It is a bit 80s but I think it will eventually make a comeback. I would personally also consider [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] and/or [name_f]Angelica[/name_f]. ([name_f]Angelica[/name_f] is even more similar to [name_m]Arch[/name_m]-[name_u]Angel[/name_u])
Thanks everyone for the awesome response! I didn’t think many people would express interest in our family names too, so that came as a nice surprise, thank you!
It has a very strong mom vibe to me, but objectively it’s a nice name.
I love [name_f]Angelina[/name_f], I don’t really care for [name_f]Angela[/name_f] though. It seems very dated to me.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Angela[/name_f]!! I never would have considered it dated; perhaps it was more popular in the 80’s in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u]. It certainly doesn’t have an 80’s feel here in Australia.
I love the story of what led to to [name_f]Angela[/name_f], but to me (and for what it’s worth I’m a Canadian child of the 80s-90s), [name_f]Angela[/name_f] itself is really, really dated. I’d use [name_f]Angelina[/name_f], [name_f]Angeline[/name_f], [name_f]Angelica[/name_f], [name_f]Angelique[/name_f], etc. in its place.
