Anna vs. Ana?

Although I find the name [name_f]Ann[/name_f]/[name_f]Anne[/name_f] plain, I do love the sound of [name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Ana[/name_f]. I’m not sure of which spelling I prefer, though. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] seems more feminine and frilly, while [name_f]Ana[/name_f] seems a little rougher, more exotic, and less familiar. However, I’m also afraid that ‘[name_f]Ana[/name_f]’ will forever have her name misspelled.

Also, I like most ‘[name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Ana[/name_f]’ names in general. Here are a few of my favorites. Which spellings do you prefer?

[name_f]Annabell[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]

[name_f]Anabell[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f]

[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] vs. Anabeth

[name_f]Annalise[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Analise[/name_f]

[name_f]Annamarie[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Anamarie[/name_f]

Any other ‘[name_f]Ana[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f]’ names that you like?

Most definitely [name_f]Anna[/name_f]- [name_f]Ana[/name_f] just looks unfinished. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a beuitfully classic name, and does not need to be shortened ever.

[name_f]Annabell[/name_f].

[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f].

[name_f]Annalise[/name_f]

[name_f]Annamarie[/name_f]

Other [name_f]Anna[/name_f] names I like:

[name_f]Arianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Adrianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Avianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Julieanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Oceanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabella[/name_f]

[name_f]Ana[/name_f] names I like:

[name_f]Svetlana[/name_f]- because [name_f]Svetlana[/name_f] Zakhorova is my favourite ballerina of all time (next to the great [name_f]Anna[/name_f] Pavlova of course).

Goodluck

[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]/ [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is one of my favorite names!

featheredwings- I do agree that [name_f]Ana[/name_f] somehow looks unfinished but I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a little common, which is why I asked for the other ‘[name_f]Anna[/name_f]’ names. My favorites that you suggested are: [name_f]Arianna[/name_f], [name_f]Julieanna[/name_f] (though I prefer [name_f]Julianna[/name_f] as a spelling, or [name_u]Julie[/name_u]-[name_f]Anna[/name_f] if you want the ‘e’), and [name_f]Avianna[/name_f]. I don’t like [name_f]Svetlana[/name_f] or [name_f]Adrianna[/name_f] that much.

rainierloner- I also love [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], and [name_f]Annabell[/name_f] as well. There are so many spelling possibilities!

miranda082- [name_f]Ana[/name_f] is supposed to be pronounced just like ‘[name_f]Anna[/name_f]’, and was originally derived from ‘[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]’ just like [name_f]Anna[/name_f].

I’m also going to throw my vote for [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I actually really love [name_f]Anna[/name_f], I think it looks beautiful. And the weird thing is, I don’t know a lot of people with the name [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. I just searched of my 1,200 American FB friends and it came up with one result!

If you choose to go with one n, I’d recommend the name [name_f]Analia[/name_f]. I think it’s very beautiful.

Other “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]” names:
[name_f]Evanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Liana[/name_f] / [name_f]Leanna[/name_f] / [name_f]Lianna[/name_f] (means “grace” which I think is beautiful)
[name_f]Briana[/name_f]

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and its variants remind me of a cow, possibly because of the “bel” part!

sigma- Wow! You have a lot of facebook friends :open_mouth:
The name [name_f]Analia[/name_f] is definitely gorgeous! It seems just the right blend of girly and exotic. I don’t know exactly why ‘[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]’ reminds you of cows, but to each their own! While I don’t care for [name_f]Evanna[/name_f] or [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], I love [name_f]Lianna[/name_f] and [name_f]Brianna[/name_f] (but spelled with double ns).

I also like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] better, and my favorite [name_f]Anna[/name_f] names are [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Julianna[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], and [name_f]Christiana[/name_f].

jessamine13- I love [name_f]Christiana[/name_f]! It’s very pretty.

I think it depends on how you say it. I’ve always said [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as “[name_f]ANN[/name_f]-ah” and [name_f]Ana[/name_f] as “[name_m]AH[/name_m]-nah”. I like [name_f]Anna[/name_f]- better at the beginning, and for double-barrels, generally, and -ana better at the end, generally. (i.e. [name_f]Annabel/name_f, [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Maria[/name_f], etc. vs. [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Ariana[/name_f], [name_f]Briana[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Viviana[/name_f], etc. My two exceptions are [name_f]Ana[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (which just looks more properly Spanish throughout!) and [name_f]Giovanna[/name_f], which is the traditional Italian spelling. I would say [name_f]Anais[/name_f] is also an exception, but [name_f]Annais[/name_f] looks ridiculous, and I’ve never come across that spelling in my life. :))

I knew an [name_f]Ana[/name_f] in college (properly said [name_m]AH[/name_m]-nah), but EVERYONE called her [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. She pronounces it [name_m]AH[/name_m]-nah, but doesn’t even bother correcting people anymore. I think it’s sad, but if you want her to be [name_m]AH[/name_m]-nah and not have to be correcting all the time, I feel like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is better. But if it’s a nn, why not? [name_f]Ana[/name_f] is lovely. I like it much better than [name_f]Anna[/name_f], actually, which I’ve always found to be rather bland.

ashthedreamer- I would pronounce ‘[name_f]Ana[/name_f]’ the same as ‘[name_f]Anna[/name_f]’, though ‘[name_m]AH[/name_m]-na’ is also lovely and would make a great nickname. I absolutely love [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Anais[/name_f] (and I agree, Annaise looks horrendous). [name_f]Ana[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is also a lovely name!

Oh please, please, please don’t ever use the spelling [name_f]Analiese[/name_f] on a child! It would be cruel. I like the original spelling of [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], but if you must change it, change it to something that includes TWO N’s.

As for [name_f]Anna[/name_f] versus [name_f]Ana[/name_f], I like [name_f]Anna[/name_f], but I don’t mind [name_f]Ana[/name_f]. I pronounce both the same.

gabriela- I know [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] is the traditional spelling, but it just doesn’t look right for me. I would end up pronouncing it wrong somehow, I know it. I prefer with a second ‘a’ (EG [name_f]Annaliese[/name_f]).

I pronounce [name_f]Ana[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] differently, [name_f]Ana[/name_f] ([name_m]AH[/name_m]-nə) and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] (AN-ə). I love both but prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f].

[name_f]Annabell[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] - neither, [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]

[name_f]Anabell[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] - I personally do not care for either spelling.

[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] vs. Anabeth - I would prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f].

[name_f]Annalise[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Analise[/name_f] - neither, [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]

[name_f]Annamarie[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Anamarie[/name_f] - I would prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f].

lovemysweeties- It’s funny because everyone says they pronounce [name_f]Ana[/name_f] differently and I never even thought of that! :stuck_out_tongue:
I’m personally not a big fan of double-name names (EG [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]) but if they’re two names put together (EG [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Annamarie[/name_f]) I can sometimes go for them.

Also, I’d prefer the [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] spelling because I am an absolutely huge [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] fan!

I would also pronounce [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Anabel[/name_f] differently and other [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_f]Ana[/name_f] names.

I did not mean as a double name. I would prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as the first name and [name_f]Beth[/name_f] or [name_f]Marie[/name_f] as the middle name. I personally do not care for the look of the two names combined as one in those two cases.

I have never read or seen any of the [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] books or movies. Excuse me while a duck and run out of here.

The second A isn’t the big issue; it’s the one N that makes it a big problem.

To me they’re completely different names.

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - [name_f]Anne[/name_f] uh

[name_f]Ana[/name_f] - [name_m]Ah[/name_m] nuh

I have a friend named [name_f]Ana[/name_f]. She is from Mexico and pronounces her name [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-na. I believe [name_f]Ana[/name_f] is the Spanish version of the English [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. They are pronounced differently as everyone has noted.
