[name_f]Anna[/name_f] has always been at the top of my girls name’s list, but recently I’ve been crushing on [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] too. Which do you prefer and why?
Personally, I prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f] because it’s less tied to one particular image/personality for me (I think [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] feels really snobby in a Southern belle sort of way.) [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is possibly my favorite of the classics because it’s so down-to-earth, feminine, and versatile.
annabel…so many girls called anna from that name and tons of others…might as well have more to the name, you can always pick a name that ends in anna too
I love [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]”. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] means grace and [name_f]Belle[/name_f] means beautiful…beautiful grace. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] honors my late sister, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f].
Interesting this is the image you have of an [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] image is very different. I picture a classy, sweet, creative, charming, friendly girl/woman. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] has a vintage, classic feel.
@lovemysweeties, I think my associations stem partially from the [name_m]Buster[/name_m] [name_u]Keaton[/name_u] silent movie The [name_m]General[/name_m], in which there’s a very Southern belle-ish [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] (or maybe it’s [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], I forget) who, while not a villain in the movie, isn’t particularly sympathetic. Plus, it seems to be the bitchy, mean girl’s name in a lot of period novels/movies/etc.
I have never heard the name [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], until I mentioned [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] to my mom, so I have no association, good or bad. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom got excited when I mentioned [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and immediately dictated, from memory, the [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Allan[/name_m] [name_u]Poe[/name_u] poem [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. It’s a beautiful poem.
I chose between those 2 names at the end of my pregnancy. Ultimately, I chose [name_f]Anna[/name_f], because I feel that the bel thing is being overdone right now. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is a beautiful name though. [name_f]My[/name_f] little girl does not look like an [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], so I’m glad I named her [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is more versatile and easier to grow up with in my opinion. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is adorable and sweet though. And it has great nickname potential.
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] sounds like a ballerina to me. If my name was [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] I would feel like I had to be a ballerina. I really like [name_f]Anna[/name_f], it’s the most classic and timeless name I can think of other than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I also like how it doesn’t have a million nicknames like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (although I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] nicknames). I also like it’s meaning which is something like “One who is graced with God’s favor.” If I did have to use [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] though I would spell it [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f].
I like both; [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is timeless, and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] has more flexibility with nickname options. If you’re torn, I’d say [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]- you can always shorten [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] to [name_f]Anna[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Anna[/name_f] to [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].
I vastly prefer [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. It’s a family name for me (my grandmother’s grandmother was an [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]) and I like the [name_u]Poe[/name_u] poem.
I would never use [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. The ones I’ve known didn’t do it any favours. I love [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], but not [name_f]Anna[/name_f].
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]. It’s just beautiful, simple and sweet. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] makes me think of dairy cows.
I’d go with [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a beautiful name, but it’s just so boring. I love names with [name_f]Anna[/name_f] in them, [name_f]Evanna[/name_f], [name_f]Arianna[/name_f], [name_f]Lilianna[/name_f], etc. They have so many options, including just [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. But [name_f]Anna[/name_f] by itself just seems so plain, there’s no other options to the name, and it’s so popular too. [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] all the way!
