Annabelle Jo?

What do people think about [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Jo[/name_f]? [name_f]My[/name_f] husband recently told me his top girl name would be [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] – which is shocking because he had absolutely no opinion about our son’s name at all. I like [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] but I really, really wanted to use the middle name [name_f]Jo[/name_f] for my grandmother (we used a family name from his side as the middle for our son). And something about the double name of [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] with [name_f]Jo[/name_f] feels like it might be off to me. But also, maybe it’s just in my head. Opinions please!

absolutely adorable! both names have such a sweet feel— summer days, gingham dresses, iced tea and creek swimming. :woman_s_hat:

honoring your grandmother with jo feels extra special, and i for one think short, gender neutral middle names for girls are having a moment— but that might just be because my daughter’s is rae. :blossom:

i also love that she could go by anna, annie, or belle, too! depending on her personality and even shifting it as she grows! :tangerine:

I like it. The long off-setting the short, but also the long ‘o’ sound balancing out the rhythm of the three short vowel sounds in Annabelle. I think moving from the ‘l’ to the ‘j’ position is slightly cumbersome, but not in any meaningful way.

You could also use Annie Jo or Anna Jo as nicknames, which flow easily off the tongue for day to day use.

Overall, sounds like a great option for you as it gives both of you something you like with an important family name. I notice it would also share initials with your son’s name, so that may be something else you enjoy.

I would add it to the list for now and see what happens with time. Just having more exposure to the combination may clear up any short-term weird or off feelings. It truly is a lovely combination – quite a classic.

[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Jo[/name_f] is very sweet, like another poster said she’s very reminiscent of like 60s-style sharing a milkshake and rollerskates!!
[name_f][/name_f]I think the names balance one another nicely, and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] also offers so many cute nicknames [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], Elle!!

Is it because [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and [name_f]Jo[/name_f] are all commonly used as “smush” names, and that’s what’s bothering you? [name_f]Or[/name_f] maybe it’s not the right combo? A few others that come to mind

It feels very southern and country to me! Whether that’s a positive or negative association I think depends on the person and where you live, but I don’t think it’s a bad name!
