[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries! This is my first post here but I’ve been reading the boards often so I know you can help.
My DH and I are trying to settle on a girl’s name that honors our grandparents [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] (for 2 of our grandmothers). We are 100% set on the middle name [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] but are having a hard time with the first name.
Here’s what we are strongly considering so far:
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Annelie[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] ([name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is my grandfather’s nn for my grandmother so its special, but I’m hesitant to jump on the [name_f]Belle[/name_f]/[name_f]Bella[/name_f] trend and am not sure if it flows well.)
The problem is, I really dislike the names [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and my grandmother hated her first name. lol
What do you think? Are there any other [name_f]Ann[/name_f] names that would fit that wouldn’t be so heavy on the [name_f]Ann[/name_f]? Or should we go with something completely different? Brothers are [name_m]Zane[/name_m] and [name_m]Gavin[/name_m].
I love [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]! It’s very sweet and bubbly. If you really don’t like it, you could always do [name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] ([name_m]Ah[/name_m]-nick-uh) I know a little girl with the name [name_f]Annika[/name_f] and I’ve loved the name ever since I met her. Plus, [name_m]Zane[/name_m], [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], and [name_f]Annika[/name_f] are all spunky, bad-a** names and I think they really go together well!
I also hate [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] because my middle name is [name_f]Anne[/name_f] and I always thought it drab. BUT I actually love [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] (spelled [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]) and [name_f]Annaliese[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] is really pretty. I can’t think of anymore [name_f]Ann[/name_f] names besides [name_f]Annika[/name_f]. There’s [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] with [name_f]Ann[/name_f] in the middle and I think [name_f]Nina[/name_f] is a version of [name_f]Ann[/name_f] but I’m not completely sure if I’m correct on that.
I love [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f]! Some nicknames could be…
[name_u]Abby[/name_u]/[name_u]Abbie[/name_u]/[name_f]Abbi[/name_f]/[name_u]Abbey[/name_u]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_u]Nelly[/name_u]/[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Nelli[/name_f]
[name_f]Nel[/name_f]
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f]/[name_f]Nancie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nan[/name_f]
[name_f]Elle[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Elli[/name_f]
Or my genius nickname… Babybell!
Thanks everyone! My two boys like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] best as well. My DH and I have always leaned more toward [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] but [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is really growing on me. Plus, it was really adorable when my grandfather would call my grandmother that. I love the nn suggestions as well!
I love [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] for you. I like the full name [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and don’t think you even need a nn. You’re lucky you have such great family names!
I like [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f], as well as [name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f].
For [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], the nn could be [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Liesel[/name_f], or Liesie.
For [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_u]Abbie[/name_u], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_u]Allie[/name_u], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] would all be cute nns, and I don’t really think [name_f]Annika[/name_f] needs a nn - it’s such a great, spunky name on its own
I prefer [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] from your options as well. For me if a name has happy familial connections it goes straight to the top of the list.
I don’t mean to be too blunt, but please think twice about [name_f]Annelie[/name_f]…teenagers can be awful, and that word makes me think of something other than a gorgeous baby! I knew an [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] in college who the boys called by an awful nn, so sadly that’s been ruined for me as well.
Thanks for all of these suggestions! You guys have really helped me narrow this down.
I’m still unsure on the flow of [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Ashby[/name_u], although [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is quickly becoming my favorite of the three. [name_f]Do[/name_f] those names flow with my last name?
I’ve heard of the “an*l ease” connotation before with [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]. That does make me hesitant, but it’s not a deal breaker since I love the name so much. I do think [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] [name_u]Ashby[/name_u] flows really well, but my DH and I are really liking [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] now.
We could use [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] as a first name, but my brother used my grandfather’s first name for his son, so we’d have cousins with their names as a couple if we did that. Is that too weird? I do love [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cara[/name_f].
So many questions in one post. lol Thanks again for all of your help!
There are a million variations of [name_f]Anna[/name_f] - what about [name_f]Anya[/name_f]? [name_f]Anais[/name_f]? [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]? Hanja? [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]? There really are a LOT of variants! My oldest dd is named [name_f]Annalise[/name_f], and as far as I know, teasing about her name has never been an issue (she is 14 now). We have met very few other girls named [name_f]Annalise[/name_f]/[name_f]Annelise[/name_f], etc…but there are a MILLION [name_f]Anna[/name_f] variety names now ([name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f],etc…), so it is sort of this generations ‘[name_u]Kris[/name_u]’ girl name…([name_f]Kristin[/name_f], [name_f]Kristy[/name_f], [name_f]Kristina[/name_f], etc…and my name is a [name_u]Kris[/name_u] name, so I know how that goes). All that being said, there is something very timeless and lovely about ‘[name_f]Anna[/name_f]’ and all its variants, imo. I love [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]! I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I also like pp suggestion of modifying [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] to [name_f]Carys[/name_f] in the middle…that is sweet, too!
