We want to keep Nameberry’s forums a safe, welcoming, and legally protected space for all. To do that, we’re making a change: photos can no longer be posted on the forums[name_f][/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
Why? We don’t own the rights to most images, and posting them can create serious legal issues [name_f][/name_f]— including the potential for costly lawsuits.
[name_f][/name_f]
You may have noticed that the photo uploaded is gone. We will also be removing existing posts with photos to keep the community safe, and we appreciate your help in following this rule moving forward.

Thanks for your understanding [name_f][/name_f]— and for making Nameberry such a thoughtful, creative space to talk names!
i completely understand why this is has to be done, but oh is this so extremely disappointing. moodboards and aesthetics created through photos are such a big part of nameberry! i do understand the need, especially to protect minor’s photos.

i’m wondering, would it be allowed to share links to pinterest boards, for example, to still allow sharing aesthetics through photos in some way? or will that also be against the rules? totally understand if it is just wondering!
This is so upsetting. [name_f][/name_f] Obviously I understand the legal issues, but this is very disappointing.

When you say that you’re going to be removing the existing posts with photos, do you mean you will truly be deleting them or that you’ll just be removing the photos from the actual posts? Truthfully, a lot of my posts (and topics asking for suggestions) include photos. I would be very disheartened if those posts (and subsequently a lot of my history on Nameberry) gets removed. This is going to be a big adjustment.
This is disappointing, I don’t use many photos but know that moodboards are a fun part of the forums for many users. However, I completely understand and support whatever Nameberry has to do to keep our community safe and ever-evolving.
Right? I loooove the moodboards and aesthetics. Thank you for the message. Hopefully we can all put our heads together to think of new ways to fill the creativity gap. Links to Pinterest boards? Very atmospheric aesthetic descriptions?
Yes me too! There could be some very creative ideas

Off the top of my head…linking to Pinterest boards[name_f][/name_f] and Unsplash collections[name_f][/name_f], or using Canva[name_f][/name_f] public links. I think Listography[name_f][/name_f] lets you embed images into lists too, so that could work. [name_m]Even[/name_m] just sharing a Google document[name_f][/name_f] or something with the moodboard?
[name_f][/name_f]
This will stretch our creativity a lot [name_f][/name_f] trying to look on the positive side of things lol.
Thank you for doing what you do to keep the community safe, as sad as it is for all of us ! I was wondering if something like this would happen eventually, as I’ve been noticing a lot of copyright strikes and concerns across other websites and companies. Also in regard to photos of minors in aesthetic moodboards shared. I admit I have taken photos from Pinterest without much thought of the repercussions of using these myself.
I highly recommend Imgur as an image sharing platform to anyone wanting to share moodboards or any misc. photos. It’s super easy, safe, and free to use.
As I almost rarely posted photos on Nameberry until now, this change will not take me long to adjust, but I understand why you removed the photo uploader. Thank you for doing everything to make Nameberry safer.
Oh no!! Moodboards are one of my favourite parts of sharing my love of names with others. This is so sad [name_f][/name_f]. However, I understand that this is for the protection and security of users- so thank you for keeping this site safe.
While we can find work arounds for everything else, I think those who might be most disappointed will be those wanting to add a picture to their birth announcements.
I have a technical/legal question. I just started editing my threads to include imgur links to the pictures so they still work when the pictures hosted by Nameberry are gone, and noticed that the forum software recognizes these as image links and embeds the image in the post – looks the exact same as if the picture was uploaded to Nameberry. Are we allowed to do that, or do these pictures still count as hosted by Nameberry for legal purposes? (I wasn’t sure so I escaped the links. A simple “-” before the actual link will make it still clickable, but no longer auto-include the picture.)
If the links to other sites that make the image or video appear in the post are not okay, will the Radio thread (where people mostly post YouTube links) be affected as well?
edit: Also, should I remove the old threads’ images myself while I’m at it?
