My husband and I are absolutely delighted to be expecting our first child in just a few months - a boy! We are both over the moon and super excited, but we have a naming dilemma on our hands that Iād love to get your opinions on
My husband and I made a pact years before we were even thinking about conceiving that our first son would be called the name weāve always both loved, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] for our first daughter). Consequently, weāve been affectionately calling our boy bean [name_m]Henry[/name_m] since we found out. Hereās the problem though: my husbandās surname is [name_m]Hugo[/name_m].
I am not a fan of alliteration, but other people love it and use it intentionally. As far as alliterative names go, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] works because the Hās are soft, not jarring as in say, [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Palmer[/name_m].
Huh, funny you just now realized, lol. I think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is fine but sounds like a character with two first names ([name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Kent[/name_m], [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] [name_m]Wayne[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], etc.) I personally wouldnāt do it, but thereās nothing inherently wrong with alliteration.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is a great name! Iād definitely say go for it as its a name youāve loved for so long. I donāt find it āsillyā at all, some alliteration is not my style, but some times, like this time, it just works beautifully. Maybe its like a previous poster said about harder and softer sounds. But anyway, alliteration is lovely in this case!
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is a solid and handsome name, I can see it fitting all lifestyles and stages of life. It feels versatile.
All the best with your little one!
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is very handsome, and if you love the name, you should definitely use it!
I think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] is a great combo, especially with your last name.
Thank you so much to everyone who has responded so far
The comments are mostly very positive and I canāt tell you how excited (and relieved!) Iām feeling after reading all your lovely thoughts on the name we love.
Please keep your thoughts coming! Itās great to be able to get help and support anonymously, as we want to keep our little guyās name a secret from friends and family. And just quietly - even though it really shouldnāt matter - I know weād be heartbroken if our family hated the name and thought it was ridiculous.
Iām generally not a fan of alliteration, mainly because I grew up with an alliterated name and felt it didnāt work and drew unwanted attention. That said, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is not bad, and clearly lots of people think itās a positive feature.
I think itās fine! My daughter has a first and middle name starting with J, and our next daughter will likely have the initials M_M, possibly MMM because that is my favorite combination so far. I think this is one of those things that some are bothered by and others like or donāt care about, but is so easy to stress over! The only thing I would worry about is maybe having a weird word spelled with initials (HAH, HEH, HOH, HUH?) but I think [name_m]Greyson[/name_m] is fine.
