I recently took a break from name lists, nameberry, and the like because the fun was being spoiled every time I presented a name to the hubs and he negated it [name]Both[/name] times we have been expecting, we agree on the perfect boy name, and then find out we’re having a girl. [name]Don[/name]'t get me wrong, I am THRILLED to have 2 little ladies, I just am having the toughest time with the girl names…
So, our first daughter became [name]Elliott[/name] [name]Joy[/name] (want to guess what our boy name was? lol). We both love the name [name]Elliott[/name] and it fits her perfectly. But now…what to name her little sister?! She’s due to arrive in [name]December[/name].
Our important naming “rules” - 1. we are considering honoring family with initials DH or GD or mn [name]Dawn[/name]. (Our first daughter EJ is after my late grandpa) 2. meaning matters 3. no single syllable first names - just does not flow with our last name
I agree that [name]Emery[/name] [name]Dawn[/name] is lovely and the styles of first and middle both fit perfectly with [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Joy[/name]! If you love it then I think you may have found ‘the one’… I definitely recommend keeping the unisex feel. Here are some more suggestions of not too “girly” options that sound nice with [name]Elliot[/name] and meet your initial requirements:
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Danielle[/name]
[name]Dylan[/name]
[name]Drew[/name] (as in Barrymore)
[name]Hope[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Hayden[/name]
[name]Gabrielle[/name]
Graycen
~I also really love [name]Emerson[/name] for you to give you the nn options of [name]Emery[/name] or [name]Remy[/name] (or even [name]Sonny[/name]/[name]Sunny[/name]). Good luck! =]
[name]Emery[/name] [name]Dawn[/name] goes really well with [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Joy[/name]. Here are some more ideas if you reconsider the name, though.
I like [name]Hope[/name] or [name]Honor[/name] for MNs with [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Joy[/name] as a sister. Other D or G names: [name]Dana[/name], [name]Deana[/name], Deadre, Gracen, [name]Geneva[/name]
I think you may have already found “the one.” [name]Emery[/name] [name]Dawn[/name] is just perfect with [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Joy[/name]. [name]Both[/name] beautiful names!
It is so reassuring to simply hear people say [name]Emery[/name] [name]Dawn[/name] goes well with [name]Elliott[/name] [name]Joy[/name]. I was worried it was too “matchy matchy” since I never thought I liked using the same first initials on siblings… Now if my husband falls in love with it, maybe it is the one! I would love to have her name figured out…I’m not one who can “wait to see the baby and then pick a name!” lol that would stress me out so much.
I definitely like [name]Emery[/name] [name]Dawn[/name], perfect with [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Joy[/name]. And I like it a lot better than [name]Devin[/name] [name]Harmony[/name]. [name]Devin[/name] is super cute for a girl, and goes well with [name]Elliot[/name] (both boys names turned girly), however I’m not sure I like it with [name]Harmony[/name]. It seems like you’re into virtue names or word names for the mn.
Maybe…
[name]Devin[/name] [name]Faith[/name]
[name]Devin[/name] [name]Free[/name]
[name]Devin[/name] [name]Bliss[/name]
[name]Devin[/name] [name]Lark[/name]
[name]Devin[/name] [name]True[/name]
[name]Devin[/name] [name]Rain[/name]
[name]Devin[/name] [name]Grey[/name] (cute!)
[name]Devin[/name] [name]Lane[/name]
[name]Devin[/name] [name]Spence[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name])
Or, here are some more unisex names that may go well with [name]Elliot[/name] (though I really do love [name]Emery[/name]):
[name]Blake[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
Ellery (probably too close to [name]Elliot[/name])
[name]Emerson[/name] (one of my favorite names of all time)
[name]Finn[/name] or [name]Flynn[/name] or [name]Finley[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Reece[/name]
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Rory[/name] ([name]Aurora[/name])
[name]Monroe[/name] (another one of my favorites)
[name]Dane[/name]
I definitely like [name]Emery[/name] better as well. I dated a [name]Devin[/name], though, so it’s hard for me to imagine it on a girl. Regardless [name]Emery[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name] work well together.
I really like [name]Emery[/name]! My only worry for you is that you are establishing a very specific nameing style. I dont know if more kids are in your future, but will you feel like a third girl would also need a unisex name starting with “E”?
@mkenison - that is a VERY good point, and I’m glad you brought it to my attention! My husband and I are not sure if we will have more kids or not yet, but he is pretty convinced we will only have girls (lol who really knows, but he loves having “his girls” !
My husband and I both really like the name [name]Emery[/name] (it’s such a rarity for us to agree!)…so what is most advisable: risk establishing a rigid naming style and go with the name we love? OR play it safe and go with something different so as to better prepare for a possible 3rd girl!? I remember a fellow nameberry advising me to save the name [name]Elliott[/name] for a boy in case I had a boy someday…we decided to use [name]Elliott[/name] on our daughter anyway…glad we did but it has definitely made naming a second girl really challenging.
I’d go ahead and use [name]Emery[/name] since you both like it. [name]Ive[/name] heard it said multiple times… But two names of the same letter is a happy coincidence, three times makes it a pattern.
