I like the nickname options of [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f], and it’s very elegant and not as inextricably associated with the goddess, but the sound of [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is a little prettier I think.
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]. I also wonder if you’d consider the unusual, but in my mind similar, [name_f]Aldea[/name_f]?
I quite like [name_f]Anthea[/name_f], though I keep think of Anthem instead, which kind of draws away from it.
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] is so strong and beautiful with such a good namesake. Therefore, I vote [name_f]Athena[/name_f]!
I much prefer [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. It has a more natural flow while [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] makes me trip up a bit.
Both names are very cute, but [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous! it reminds me of a toddler with curly blonde hair and grey eyes.
[name_f]Anthea[/name_f] might be a more exotic spin on [name_f]Anna[/name_f], if you know anyone with that name you could honour. You might also like [name_f]Althea[/name_f] (meaning ‘Healing’)
[name_m]Just[/name_m] some extra info- [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] is sometimes listed as one of the three Graces. She is the goddess of springs, marshlands, swamps, flowers, flowery wreaths and human love. Her main place of worship is [name_f]Crete[/name_f] and she is an attendant of [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] ([name_f]Venus[/name_f])
I have a friend named [name_f]Anthea[/name_f], it is such a gorgeous name.
So do I. It’s her name that has made me think these Greek mythological names are quite wearable.
I think I like both equally
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] all of the way. It’s powerful without being too much and has the nn’s [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. It also flows better when said.
So far the poll is split 80:20 towards [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. I wasn’t sure what to expect so this has been very interesting!
I suspect the preference toward [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is for ease of pronunciation. I was surprised how many people said [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] was awkward to say or didn’t roll off the tongue easily. Thank you for your input!
I like both, but I chose [name_f]Athena[/name_f] because I know one and she is super sweet. [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is actually pretty well used in the Greek community, I know several. I much prefer its English pronunciation to its Greek one (in Greek its pronounced [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-THEEN-nah as opposed to uh-thee-nuh. Accents are different)! [name_f]Athena[/name_f] sounds so pretty in English. [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] is pretty too, but doesn’t flow off the tongue as well as [name_f]Athena[/name_f] does [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
That is interesting! I didn’t know that, not being Greek.
P.S. I really like the names in your signature. I think we have similar tastes.
I prefer [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Anthea[/name_f], but more because I love [name_f]Thea[/name_f] than on its own merit.
I love both (though I do prefer the [name_f]Antheia[/name_f] spelling and the nickname of [name_f]Ania[/name_f]). They’re both gorgeous, different by not too different and have great histories! You can’t go wrong with either.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Athena[/name_f]!
I much prefer the sound of [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and the way it looks on paper, but the goddess herself is not particularly nice; actually she is cold, aloof, vengeful, and does some rather awful things, the story of poor Medusa being one shudder-worthy example. While I appreciate the history behind [name_f]Athena[/name_f], I would not exactly call her a good namesake. I would personally pull for [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], or even [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] before [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. But that’s just me.
No contest, [name_f]Athena[/name_f] all the way. Strong, more authentic, a spelling that’s more aesthetically pleasing, and fresher. [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] sound like an annoying great-aunt’s name. [name_f]Athena[/name_f] sounds like a beautiful, intelligent, fun-loving, confident young woman. One of my favorite names!
Both are nice, but I think I’d choose [name_f]Anthea[/name_f].
It feels like it’s less laden with “goddess” baggage, though it still has the undertones.
More accessible I guess.
I can’t decide.
