Any help with Jewish/Hebrew/Yiddish boys names?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] I don’t know what I am having. Either way if I have a boy I want him to have a strong Hebrew/Yiddish name. I don’t like [name_m]Eli[/name_m], [name_m]Abe[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]. I want something a bit different but that has a strong name. I love [name_m]Yakov[/name_m], but that is [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] in Hebrew. So I don’t feel right using a majorly popular name. So any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!!!

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]/[name_m]Efrem[/name_m]

I love:
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_m]Tobiah[/name_m] with the nn [name_m]Tobin[/name_m].
I also love [name_m]Zephaniah[/name_m] with the nn Zeph, Zephan, or [name_m]Ian[/name_m].
[name_m]Azrael[/name_m], or [name_m]Azriel[/name_m] which sounds similar to [name_m]Israel[/name_m] is also one of my current favorites. [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m] I have always preferred over the super popular [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]. A great nn for [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m] in my opinion is [name_m]Rye[/name_m] or [name_f]Carsin[/name_f].

[name_m]Dov[/name_m]
[name_m]Mordecai[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
[name_m]Saul[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
Elkan
Mahir
[name_m]Ranen[/name_m]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]
Ravid

For whatever reason a lot of my favourites are E’s: [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], Ezriel, [name_m]Eleazar[/name_m], [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]. I’m not into [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] though. [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] (NN [name_m]Zeke[/name_m]) is okay but my sister has dibsed it.

I don’t like [name_m]Abe[/name_m] either but I’m fond of [name_m]Bram[/name_m] as a NN for [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]. If I were going for an A I’d vastly prefer [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_f]Azaria[/name_f], [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_m]Amos[/name_m], or [name_m]Aaron[/name_m]/[name_m]Aharon[/name_m]/[name_m]Aron[/name_m] to [name_m]Abe[/name_m]. [name_u]Ari[/name_u] is quite popular amongst Jews but not overused in general…? I like [name_u]Ari[/name_u] but so does EVERYONE [name_f]ELSE[/name_f] so I dunno how you feel about it.

My sister and I divided up a lot of the family names between us. She got [name_m]Naphtali[/name_m], which burns me slightly because I love it. I got Tzvi, which I love but I wouldn’t use as a legal FN, only a middle name or Hebrew name. I think we’re both going to end up with [name_m]Hanan[/name_m]/Chanan or some variant of it like Elchanan or Yochanan. It was our grandfather’s name though.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you count J’s or only Y’s? I am equally as fond of [name_m]Judah[/name_m] & [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] as [name_m]Yehuda[/name_m] and Yitro, and honestly fonder of [name_m]Joel[/name_m] than [name_m]Yoel[/name_m]. I like Yonatan a lot but if I used it as the Hebrew name I’d probably use [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] in English? Depends on your taste.

[name_m]Zev[/name_m], [name_m]Lev[/name_m], [name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_u]Avi[/name_u] are all very simple but pack a lot of flavour into small packages. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like that style? Or are you more a 4-syllable type? [name_m]How[/name_m] long’s your last name?

I’m not Jewish, so I don’t know a lot of names, but [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] and Hirum did come to mind. [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] is just over the 500 hundred mark, so it’s known but not overly used. Hirum isn’t in the top 1000 so it’s very unique, yet still easy to pronounce/spell.

What about Yakovy

I love the name [name_m]Ezer[/name_m] or Azer. I also love Evram / [name_m]Efrem[/name_m]

[name_m]Yair[/name_m]/[name_m]Jair[/name_m]
[name_m]Jared[/name_m]
[name_m]Avner[/name_m]
[name_m]Oren[/name_m]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]/[name_u]Micha[/name_u]
Ronen
[name_m]Eitan[/name_m]/[name_m]Etan[/name_m]/[name_m]Eytan[/name_m]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Uriel[/name_m], [name_m]Uziel[/name_m]
[name_m]Ilan[/name_m]
[name_m]Aaron[/name_m]/[name_m]Aharon[/name_m]
[name_m]Gavriel[/name_m]/[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Coby[/name_m] as a short version or nickname for [name_m]Yaakov[/name_m]/[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]?

If/when I have boys, i have Yochanan [name_m]David[/name_m] and [name_m]Azriel[/name_m] [name_m]Aryeh[/name_m] waiting for them!

Chayyim!! I also love [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m].

Chayyim’s a good one, though often spelt [name_m]Chaim[/name_m].

I really love [name_m]Noam[/name_m] (no-AM, not like “gnome”) but forgot to mention it before because I can’t use it.

[name_m]Aryeh[/name_m], [name_m]Moshe[/name_m], Eitan, and [name_u]Akiva[/name_u] are all solid options.

I also really like Ephraim, Ezra, and Asher, though they’ve all really gone mainstream.

[name_u]Ari[/name_u] is one of my all-time favorite names (though I’m trying to make peace with using it as a girl’s nn).

I’m also going to suggest Solomon. I know a toddler Solomon who goes by Solo and Solly. Do forgive me if these aren’t what you’re looking for religiously, but other biblical names I love include:

Abel
Abner
Amos
Asa
Bartholomew
Enoch
Ezra
Gideon

I love [name_m]Aleph[/name_m], Niv (Yaniv) and my sons jewish name is [name_m]Zev[/name_m]. Good luck!
