Any longer versions of Lux?

… Or, alternately, are there longer names you think [name_f]Lux[/name_f] would be a fairly close nickname for?

[name_u]Alexis[/name_u] can be [name_u]Lex[/name_u]. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] variants can be [name_m]Luc[/name_m] (“loose,” I know, usually spoken and not written). If not, are there any double barrels that sound okay? [name_f]Lux[/name_f]-[name_f]Anne[/name_f] is a bit close to [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] but that’s the kind of thing I am looking for. My husband is grumbling that there are not enough choices in such a short name but I loooooove it!

X can substitute for any ending, so I suggest: [name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f], [name_f]Luciana[/name_f], [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], Lucrece, [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_u]London[/name_u], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]

[name_f]Luciana[/name_f] is the first name that came to mind. I love [name_f]Luciana[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Lux[/name_f]! I also really [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f] by itself! There’s also [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f].

I have also seen people draw nicnames from the first and middle name…I know a [name_f]Callie[/name_f] who is [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Allison[/name_u] and a [name_m]Bo[/name_m] who is a [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].

Or you could give her a name w/initials spelling [name_f]LUX[/name_f]: [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] (though there aren’t a lot of options for ‘U’ or ‘x’)

[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] was my first thought. [name_f]Lux[/name_f]-[name_f]Anne[/name_f] works but its fine by itself five [name_f]Lux[/name_f]'s born in england in 2011.

My first thought was [name_m]Lennox[/name_m]… which is more of a unisex name. There are some good namesakes: 18th century poet [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_m]Lennox[/name_m], and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_m]Lennox[/name_m], of course. Not sure if it is your style…

[name_f]Lux[/name_f] can be a short form of any [name_m]Luc[/name_m]- name meaning ‘light’.

I’ve heard the name Luxandra but I don’t know if it’s legitimate. Ruxandra is a real name so but I can’t find much on Luxandra.

I like [name_f]Lucasta[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f].

[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] is the traditional ‘[name_f]Lux[/name_f]’, around here at least, and is a dignified alternative if the child turns out not to like [name_f]Lux[/name_f]. It also provides a wealth of other nicknames - [name_f]Cindy[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_u]Luce[/name_u], etc.

If you use initials you can spell [name_f]LUX[/name_f]:

[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] [name_f]Umbria[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]

I think these names could give you nn. [name_f]LUX[/name_f]:

[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]/[name_f]Alexandria[/name_f]
[name_u]Alexis[/name_u]/[name_u]Alix[/name_u]/[name_f]Alyx[/name_f]
[name_u]Lexie[/name_u]

[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucretia[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f]
Luxor/Luxora

Thank you all for the great ideas – Not sure I could get U and X names that hubby would go for! I was so excited he actually didn’t shoot [name_f]Lux[/name_f] down immediately. Loves foo-foo names (:

I like the idea of going for L-names that also mean light. The only slight hang up (and it’s very slight) is the difference in prn with names like [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] if [name_f]Lux[/name_f] was a NN for them. Are there any [name_f]Lu[/name_f]-names that don’t have the long U sound, regardless of meaning?

I love the name [name_f]Lux[/name_f], too! But I never even thought to use it as a nickname.

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]/[name_f]Luvinia[/name_f] has the ‘lu’ sound that has the short U sound, as in [name_f]Lux[/name_f]…
Have you thought of [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]? Again it has the sound created by the ‘la’, but there is also an x in there.
[name_u]London[/name_u] also has the ‘lu’, but not with the U. And depending on where you’re from it makes the ‘lu’ (if you’re Australian like me) or it is an ‘on’ if you’re European. Accents are something I’ve learnt to take into consideration when taking advice from other berries
[name_f]Letitia[/name_f] can also go on the ‘lu-list’ and there are so many other names with different vowels creating that sound… Good luck!!

My grandson was born in Feb 2018 & my daughter in law wanted to name him LUX. [name_f]My[/name_f] son wasn’t into that name cuz he thought it was a girls name. I tried to tell him actually, it’s a unisex name & I lived it cuz it was different. He wouldn’t budge  So my daughter in law came up with LUXSTON & we would call him LUX for short. Now 2 1/2 years later we call him both LUXSTON & LUX, he responds to both :blue_heart:

I think of [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] or [name_f]Lumina[/name_f] :grinning:
