Any names inspired by Megan/Meghan that could work as a middle name for Ella?

We recently settled on the first name [name_f]Ella[/name_f] for our daughter (yay! so happy!). As you may have seen, we have a working middle name(s) of [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f], but we are also considering other options as these are honour/family names for others. We are starting to think maybe we would like her to have a middle name that is more from us and tells “our story”.

[name_f][/name_f]

One option would be to give her a name similar to or inspired by my name. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is Megan/Meghan [name_f][/name_f]- any name suggestions that are derivatives of Megan/Meghan or mean the same as Megan/Meghan that could work for a middle with [name_f]Ella[/name_f]?

[name_f][/name_f]

Thanks in advance! [name_f]Love[/name_f] this community!

Megan/Meghan is derived from [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], so any [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] variant would work! [name_m]Or[/name_m] ‘pearl’, which is Meghan’s meaning!

[name_f][/name_f]

Maybe…
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Mared[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

or maybe a similar-sounding name like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_m]Morgan[/name_m]?

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is another nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].

How do you feel about [name_f]Megara[/name_f]? Meegan is also an option.

Not sure if you ever go by [name_f]Meg[/name_f] but if you do and you spell that backwards, you get [name_f]Gem[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Gem[/name_f] is cute

[name_f][/name_f]

Some are more of a stretch than others

I get so excited when I see your new posts and how much you’re loving [name_f]Ella[/name_f]! [name_f][/name_f] I’ve said it before but I love how at peace you are with her name.

[name_f][/name_f]

I love some of the other suggestions taking variants of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (like this because it could maybe honor [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_f]Megan[/name_f] since it’s sometimes a diminutive if [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and Margaret?)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] Malgorzata (doesn’t really feel like you, but it is a variant of Margaret/Megan!)

[name_f][/name_f]

I’ve been thinking a lot about [name_f]Meg[/name_f] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] names—like:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Megara[/name_f] (this doesn’t sound like you, but it does remind me of Megan!)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] (could be a double honor for anyone with an [name_f]October[/name_f] birthday too?)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] Magalie
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

If you find that no variants are speaking to you, could you use something that has ties to something that means a lot to you? [name_f][/name_f] Like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] if you love horses, or [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] for the meaning purple has to your family? [name_f][/name_f] I think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] would be super adorable. [name_f][/name_f] I’m also minorly obsessed with [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Maple[/name_f] or [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] but I don’t know if it would be weird for a Canadian to use [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and I think I remember you sharing once that that’s where you’re from?

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck! [name_f][/name_f] Can’t wait to hear what you decide on! [name_f][/name_f]

I was a strong supporter of [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] as the middle name, but I’m also a big fan of using your own name or a closely related name if you are going down the family name route.

[name_f][/name_f]

I also think using your own name is a really solid reason for pivoting away from the grandparents who may be surprised by the change (even if they didn’t react as you’d hoped when you first announced).

[name_f][/name_f]

I would would choose [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] because it’s the most straight forward choice relating to [name_f]Megan[/name_f]. It’s a beautiful classic and sounds wonderful with [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. The length and consonants make it feel substanial and balance out the lightness and brevity of [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

If you don’t want something so classic, I would suggest [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] which has lovely imagery and feels slightly artsy.

I do go by [name_f]Meg[/name_f] sometimes and never thought of [name_f]Gem[/name_f]! Very cute and subtle. Thanks for the idea :slightly_smiling_face:

Aww thank you so much! I am SO HAPPY with [name_f]Ella[/name_f], oh my gosh, it’s like a huge weight lifted was lifted off my shoulders when we decided on her! I wish I could share a photo to show you all how cute she is and how well [name_f]Ella[/name_f] fits her. It’s truly perfect and I’m finally able to enjoy this precious newborn stage. While we are still figuring out the middle names, they are not stressing me out quite like the first name was!

[name_f][/name_f]

I love many of your suggestions [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] especially.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] is also very pretty and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] was a close contender for the first name so that would be a nice way to include it!

I completely agree that using my own name does help with an explanation to family about pivoting away from the original name. At the end of the day, I don’t think people can be upset with me for deciding to include myself [name_f][/name_f]- the person who grew and birthed her! [name_f][/name_f]- in her name instead of others.

[name_f][/name_f]

With that said, the grandparents have let on that they don’t really like the name [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] all that much and would prefer something more classic/traditional for her and that we can/should change it if we want…so I honestly don’t think anyone will be that disappointed regardless. It was even suggested that maybe we use [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] for a future pet instead [name_f][/name_f] So this is why I have been feeling like perhaps a name more connected to myself (Margaret, [name_f]Margot[/name_f], etc.) or my husband and I together (June) would be more fitting.

[name_f][/name_f]

Your suggestions of [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] are both lovely! We are thinking about them! :slightly_smiling_face:

Did you have any specific flowers featured in your wedding (if you had one, please ignore this if you didn’t)? They might make really sweet name inspiration for a middle relating to you and your husband together. It kind of tells a story.

[name_f][/name_f]

E.g. if you had lilies in your bouquet or as decoration then a name with lily in it, or if your venue had a specific flower or plant growing in it then that could be a sweet name sake.

[name_f][/name_f]

Other cute ideas like this:

[name_f][/name_f]
    [name_f][/name_f]
  • inspo from a flower from the first bouquet you got
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • inspo from a memorable date or from your proposal
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • inspo from a song significant to your relationship (I have a friend whose name was inspired by a song and she adores the connection)
